Autoblog just heard it straight from the Italian-Canadian horse's mouth: The hot new Jeep Grand Cherokee in North America will – somewhere between soon and the end of 2013 – be getting the same recently improved 3.0-liter V6 turbo-diesel engine that Europe gets. In the Grand Cherokee, this oil-burning powerplant is good for 237 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque, the latter of which is fully delivered between 1,800 and 2,800 rpm. This is music to all Jamboree and Rubicon fanatics everywhere.

Hell yea now only if I will ever have enough $$$ to get one! Man hopefully a wrangler is in there to!!

I've driven about 1,000 of them at work...I wouldn't buy one. They are junk. I think they will shit on a Hemi 1/8 mile though.

Jeep Liberty had a diesel years ago, it was shit.

This! if its the same italian diesel they put in the Liberty and currently in the european nitro they might as well pass. it is a slug turd thats noisy and runs like crap. Last time I was in Europe I rented an Mercedes ML Bluetec, and a Diesel Nitro, the blutec was an amazing diesel, the nitro felt like it was constantly about to grenade

why are they "junk"

Quality is just piss poor on damn near everything. Interior looks nice, feels like a Kia. They ride overwhelmingly stiff, even on the air ride models. The diesels are annoyingly loud, something I would not pay 40-60k for in a SUV. The way fuel lines, power steering lines, brake lines, misc hoses are ran and connected on the engine is hilarious.

They do have some cool features and good ideas, but they just don't deliver on it in the build quality section. I can tell you even the base model will be expensive if it comes here and probably way down on power because of emissions. With 5-10 of them running it will make a 25,000 sq/ft shop so bad you can't even see because your eyes are burning. If you sit in the trucks idling for a while you can start to smell it too.

Yes it is, we had some engineers in our shop from the Italian diesel company.

Isn't that why they are called mules? To fix issues like this?

The vehicles we have here are not mules, they leave here and go straight to the dealership. The majority of them are already sold.

BTW, I have nothing against Chrysler over anything else. Without them I wouldn't have a job. BUT anyone who is into cars can do what I do for a day and they will feel the same way I do with as much hands on time as you get on the vehicles.
