Who drives an hour one way to work?

I drive 25 miles each way. If I leave by 6 am it takes me an hour. if I leave 6:01 till 8:45, it's at least 2 hours. My problem is traffic though The drive isn't bad and as stated, you just get used ot it.

Used to drive 1 hour and 5 minutes one way to work. Would never do it again. Your 8 hour day is 10 hours from the drive. Hit a little traffic on the way home and your in for a 2 hour commute. Fuck that.

I drive 8 minutes each way. My Dad used to have the same drive where he was. He's now about 25-30 minutes. Love it. Loves the new house and area. You're truly happy at home, so do what makes you happy. The commute is just part of life. I wanna be out where they are now. I wouldn't mind the extra time to be further north.

Further away = greater fuel expenses and more frequent vehicle maintenance intervals due to increased driving distance. Also, can mean 'losing' a couple hours every day...and more than that when foul weather, construction, accidents are added into the equation. It's time you will never get back as stated by others.

I currently live in a suburban environment that is far less than my ideal situation (I grew up with a lot of land/room to play/etc.). However, when I switched jobs and my drive went from 20 miles to 5 miles, I couldn't believe how much time I got back every day...hence making the experience more tolerable where I live.

Having a flexible schedule/ability to work from home will help a lot.

Good luck either way.

I drive from Commerce to Royal Oak, previous job was in Troy, so just a tad further. Takes anywhere from 45m-1h one way. It's not too bad, I would like to live closer buy my house is pretty bad ass and the area is really nice, so its worth it in the end. You also get that time to wind down. I just work from home when it snows, it's really not that big of a deal w/my company tho.

This year I went from 75 to 30 miles one way commute, and really happy about the time and gas saved. I don't think it's so much about exact miles or time spent, it's what conditions are. I used to have to drive 275 to 696 when I worked in Troy, and I'll pretty much do anything to not have to deal with those roads again during rush hour... 94 to downtown is nothing in comparison!

I work with guys that drive a hour plus to work everyday. Some of them I understand why, others could work closer to home and make the same money. I've got a 15-20 min drive depending on my right foot and traffic. It's just enough to wake up, and just enough to relax.

I have a friend that drives from Shelby Twp to Harbor Beach 5 days a week. Just over 100 miles and just over 2 hours.

He says he doesn't mind the actual drive just doesn't like losing 4 hours of his day.

An hour isn't to bad honestly. My drive is 15 miles and can take 45 minutes some days.

I think an hour drive is very doable as long as your very happy with where you live.

I used to live in Troy and work in Troy. That sucked. It always felt like I was at work even when I was at home.

Commuted for a while from Holly to Sterling Heights. Most of the time it wasn't too bad, but generally that last 10-15 miles on my way home sucked. The whole time I was thinking how nice it would be to be home already.

Currently I have a 600 mile round trip, but I only have to make it once a quarter and they pay for my fuel/hotel.

Work to home commute is only part of the equation. At least as important (to me) is how close the home is to local restaurants, grocery stores, sports stadiums, race tracks, etc. That's something I really disliked when I was up in Holly and Fenton. Always felt like I had to drive 10+ miles to get anything. Gets old, real quick. I also noticed that no one ever came to visit when I lived in the boonies.

This right here...

Brax rule of thumb... Whatever it takes you on a regular day to get from home to work or vice versa... Double it for bad weather/snow...

where are you thinking of moving too? the drive would suck, like reiko said one mention of snow and double the drive. If you have flex start time you will have to learn the best time for the drive

Well worth it, I did it for years. Gives you time to think and wine down from work. I built a new home last summer and my drive is not that far anymore but I still put on over 3,000 miles a month.

85 miles each way for me from Port Huron to Livonia, dont hate it yet but havn't had to do it in the winter yet. First time I have ever worked out of town. Last job was 4 mile drive but I don't mind the commute.

I used to drive 1 hour in the morning, and 1 hour 20 min way home. Key words being "used to". I hated every minute of the drive. If I had a nice driver it might have been better, but my drivers consist of a 98 Ram that gets single digit mileage, and a 99 neon. The pay was great, but I hated wasting time behind the wheel. Now I work 2 miles from home, but I make less money. It's still worth it to me. It all depends how much you value your free time.

My drive is 17 miles, takes about 25 minutes. I found a house on a lake in Jerome, MI, which would make my commute 65 miles each way. While the house was sweet, I couldn't justify putting almost 20k on the car just for my work commute each year.

If you wanna live on a postage stamp then live closer to work, you wanna live on a acre then drive an hour out of the city.

It's all what you wanna come home to.
