When did you become a MM????

2001-WS6

So after I rolled my 1999 TA literally on may way to work with my daughter in the car seat that protected her... was later recalled and I testified to support the company because it was on the parents who could not properly buckle the seat and their kids. Crazy but true. That resulted in one of the freak insurance events with the basic 1999 TA became a 2001-WS6.

I immediately went to the original Detroit Speedworks (don't whine or bitch... that's why we're all know each other from and where MM came to life lol) and started upgrading the 2001-WS6. That's how I officially met the "Man-in-Plaid" (bonus points for those that remember and if he's watching as an old timer he needs to chime in) and the cast of characters (Tom, Jeff and whole lot of great MM founders) that were MM back in the day. My original "E-Rock" (love you my brother)... Tom the "stunt man"... how many peopler remember the superballs and the Ionia free-fair?? "Eric turbo guy" who's wheel fell off on I-94 and later Eric the MM video compiler. Let's not forget one of the original characters... "Fish" (points for those that remember the fall). How about a young Mr Matt H... the god-father of twin turbos in 4th gens. He was the monster from Cornell who used to drag a y-pipe being chased by another guy's cop car (points if you can remember the cop car owner and some will) with a mad man who's name starts with a "B" as a cheerleader and the best entertainer. Then there was an amazing bunch of great kids who we know as the "Icks" who have kept MM moving.

We have a few honorary "Icks" to name as well, true car guys that as "kids", helped out a lot of people as well. One has a beautiful Vert and the other might be known as awiring guy, but he was the only dude with "ballz big enough" to run the White Mustang. By the way... who likes PIE????? I literally did a 720 in the rain on telegraph the night of that quote. Worn drag radials are not ment for cruising in the rain. That was a certain southside bar preparing for a Pinks All Out Event with our drivers and crew lol.

Speaking of Pinks, we are lucky enough to have built one car and raced the west side of MM in their car for the event back in 2007. I might be shameless in saying, we brought the two best balanced all out cheap built cars ever shown on the show. We had the two best drivers for the cars that didn't care and we had the two best crews enjoying being there to play. Good TV and better racing with all the scenes everyone missed out on. Red Roof Inn to the front for the best towels and Raj for the rental car radiator cap. :) Pinks doesn't happen from the MM east side without the gifted car, all of the parts shared from all MM family with spare ford parts and Mr Matt S's dealership quality paint job. The dedicated hard work from Larry, the twins, Joe, Reiko, many other MMers and my neighbors being patient/helping.

Saso still has one of the best MM quotes in history ... "dudes... do you not know the firing order of a Ford Windsor".... "errr" said a bunch of GM computer EFI guys that put the ThunderStang together after reading on the internet lol. All right Saso had a great quote, but I forgot Johnny's on the first test run of ThunderStang. He made a test hit in the parking lot with the first time on Nitrous and we did not have the hood on. He nailed it on a certain Lake Orion distribution warehouse parking lot and something shot to the sky that seemed to land around the time he got back from the hit. A breather launched... his quote was "This bitch will ride". :) Then there was the infamous test hit up in Lapeer when he beat a rail car on the hit and shut it down when he realized that he didn't have steering before the rail car even got close to catching up. We had stripped the car clean but had not cut out the steering wheel locking slider. The car came down hard and locked the steering up. Johnny felt it and shut it down in those .2 to .3's of the launch. We figured it out and zipped tied the lock. He said is ready??? we said "we hope"... he said "I'm ready." :) Straight up big Ballz racing. :)

Two thumbs down to the Chicago crowd (it's old... but it still plays lol) that didn't want any part of either of the Michigan cars after the show lol.

Motown Muscle has a crazy history and we've all heard parts of it, and we've added to it along the way. We have car people, we have drag racing people, we have road racing people, we have show car people and we have kids that we bring along for the rides we enjoy. We have adults and we have many that have been here and raising the next generation of members. Life will always be a Marathon and not a sprint. We all love this hobby/sport and we all have to balance it with our life goals int the moment. This post is about sharing how you got here, what you're doing now, and what you want to do when you get more free time to enjoy your cars and projects. :)

I've taken a long stretch off. I'm finally finding time to work on the car after 11 years. I hope to be back on the road to see people with something other than the tow vehicle or a pretty Dodge. :) For those that remember the pinks garage build... this year will be something similar but hopefully a lot quicker. :)

Charter member here. I was a silly Ford guy hanging out with the Michigan Section of CamaroZ28.com and we decided it was time for a club for all makes and models. We had some great gatherings and made several great memories over the years!

I haven't been around much in the last 15 years but I was definitely around in the early days as my join date will testify. Was a lot of fun in those early days hanging out with a lot of great people (and a few not so great). I have the same story as a number of the OGs in that I got married and had kids and life just got busy.

I have a lot of great memories of those days. I even know how the Icks got that nickname. :D Hung out with those fellas quite a bit along with Eric (Roadrage) Harlan, Stenod, Frezza, Denny (AutoRoc), Joe (Duke), Brian (TurboBuick), John (BlackHawk) and many others. Managed to make it to one of the events that some of the members went to that was down in Louisiana and saw Harlan and Harold put down some (at the time) eye opening 1/4 mile times. The good old days!

I managed to forget one of the OGs: Tom (cASeSenSiTive). Not sure how I forgot him as we hung out quite a bit as well.

Just watched that Pinks video. Great to see all the familiar faces. Rick, Raj, John and a bunch of others. Looked like maybe Reiko was in there as well? Baby faced Joe and Nick. haha

I also remember a big group of us going to one of the Fast and Furious movies at AMC20 in Livonia, various trips to Coney's or Hooters. I remember going to a Hooters on the east side somewhere with I think it was Eric and maybe Rod? Crap, I forgot to mention Rod442 in my last post. :( Anyway, I don't remember who exactly was with us, just remember trying to track the waitress down later in Mt. Clemens. And no, we weren't stalking her, she invited us. :) We never found her, though. IIRC the bar she was at was too busy and we didn't want to wait to get in so we went someplace else.

Man, I shouldn't have started listing names in that first post of mine. There are so many I missed and I am having a hard time remembering screen names as well. Here are a few more that I remember hanging out with: James (Indy), John (Quasar), Shelly (was the cop car her boyfriend's? I should know his name but can't think of it right now), Mike (Tuna), Greg (Bishop), Jacko, Kevin G., Larry (1BadAir), Jim P. (TurboTA), Chris J., Scott (1BAD86Z) and Brandon (little2V). Man, I know I am forgetting even more. We really had a great crew.

Edit: John's screen name was Quasar and IIRC, Shelly's boyfriend's name was Nick. There was also the other Nick that was involved in those early days (silver or pewter Camaro?) but I don't remember his screen name any more either. We had a lot of Nick's in those days. :D

I came around in 2006, which was about the end of the 'crazy' times and the beginning of the more 'organized' times. I was in my mid 50's when I started coming around, so my staying out late, partying bar times had already run their course. One thing I did enjoy was going to the MM monthly meetings. They began early enough and I got a chance to meet a number of great members who were a lot of fun to chat with once a month. I do miss those days.....

Just my .02....grr

I joined in 07 with my ram, and apparently a couple members were in da hood too, my neighborhood, i remember seeing a yellow coronet!

I was on my way to work one day and got behind a Camaro getting on 96 from Inkster. It had a license plate frame for MM. I looked it up when I got to work and been here ever since. First club thing I went to was a dyno day at APE (pre Chris).

I was in the second generation of members - joined between 2001 and 2004 and I only know that because that is when I had my Firehawk. Of course, TrboBuick working at Ramchargers got me coming to the meetings in the first place, but I joined because of the race series the founding guys had set up - I probably never would have raced at Grand bend or St. Thomas if not for that first season. It is amazing that we used to be able to rent Milan for $400 plus the VHT costs. It definitely spoiled me, and now I don't think I ever want to wait three hours in the pits to get two passes all day. Maybe if the track re-opens we can set up a Saturday Morning event again!

Joined after seeing 91bird305s Michigan Muscle videos, I think they were on Streetfire.net? That's how I found this place. It was a great stress distraction while in college. I had an IROC-Z at the time that I had plans for, but age just took over that car. Went a few years without a cruiser/quick car, got married, became a dad, etc.

Met some really cool people on here. After all this time, I ended up with the car I originally wanted when I first joined...an LS1 Camaro. Now if only great condition parts were readily available and cheap like they were back then. I should have been buying up things like ZR1 wheels and suspension goodies.

I'll always be a forum user. I had a lot of great times just participating in threads on here back when MM was a hundred posts per minute. I doubt I'll ever leave.

I've been around a minute or two. It's been so long I can't even remember who was all there at the first official Speedworks meet. Captain Flannel and I started talking about starting the club at the Woodward lot I rented in 99, but I have no idea when the Speedworks meet even was.

10,000+ posts since 2005, I honestly can't remember how I got to this place!

It's been fun and a blast to meet a few of you guys over the years.

Thank you all for putting up with me & allowing me to share in the madness
we call Motown Muscle!

These are the cool posts I wanted to see from everyone. Keep them coming. Eric... do you remember me hitting the brakes in the Durmax on the way home from WDC and the poor grill falling in the back of my truck with Birmingham PD next to us at 15 mile??? These are the MM moments that make us family lol.

We are lucky enough that there have been a lot of great and fun people that have been involved in MM over the years. A lot of great moment mentioned so far and great to see an "Ick" post right up after me and I'm happy to see all the great things going on in everyone's lives but I'm always jealous of the game room. :) Some great pictures attached for sure. For sure, Eric's work on the Michigan Muscle videos were always awesome.

The work that Nick, Justin and the guys have done to keep things rolling along is awesome. It's hard as our lives move on and change, to make time for our crazy extended family here at MM. The second generation of MM'ers is expanding for sure and I enjoy seeing them all. :)

Keep sharing your stories and pictures... this summer is going to get better. :)

Denny... if you feel board... lol. It's not the ThunderStang... but there is still a lot of beer in the fridge this year. :)

I'm reading all the posts but know there's no way I'd have time to fill in all the great people I met thru MM.. Monday when I'm on the clock I'll post up w detailed thread haha
