whats the best TV/internet subscriber?

i download large files everyone once in a while...but still seems like 8mb should be fast enough? What type of download speeds can you actually see with that type of connection?

If youre actually getting the full bandwidth, youll be getting 1 megabyte/sec. 1 megabyte = 8 megabits.

You would be truley suprised how many accounts I see at retail pricing every day and people can care less. Why? Because the service is an entertainment and it works well for them. They are happy with the value they are recieving for their money. Period.

Your thoughts are interesting. When cable and internet service was cheaper, a lot of people didn't care that much about price. I have had just the TV portion jump from $90 to about $125 in less than 3 years. My cable bill is $170 per month now, including taxes. This includes internet, but doesn't include phone. So, now pricing DOES make a difference. And, quite a few people are looking for a cheaper alternative, because it isn't such a good value anymore.

FWIW - I have been with Comcast since they took over here. I initially got cable in the late 70's when it first became available in my area. I think it was actually AT&T. I have never changed providers, but the cable company has been bought and sold 4 or 5 times, and finally ending up at Comcast. I have had the same bundle/package/channels since day one. I have 4 pay channels, 1 extra box and digital plus. No DVR or HD.

I was going to call Comcast Customer Service and ask for a promo rate or reduction. But since you say they aren't giving those out anymore, I won't waste my time, or Comcasts. I am not unhappy with Comcast, other than the pricing.

I'll probably just go ahead and switch. It really isn't any skin off my back, other than re-learning channel positions once again. What do I have to lose? My phone land line used to be about $90/month up until I got Vonage about 4 years ago. I saw my phone go down to $30 month (including taxes). That was a 100% direct savings of $50 to $60 per month. To me, it is all about the cost now, because it has gotten out of hand.

Like I've mentioned I am not unhappy with Comcast, I just want to try to get it a little cheaper. If switching providers is the answer to get a promotional rate, then so be it. I can always just switch back in a year or two, and then get the promotional rate again from Comcast.

Thanks for the insight.....Gary

Your bill increase could of came from coming off a promotional rate. I would have to look at the account history. Depending on your cable package, if you bundled the phone to make a triple play they WILL rebundle you since your adding a service. Currently they have two year promotions going on for the triple play. After one year the price will increase, after two years it will increase again.

I didn't really mean to come off in the wrong way against an honest and loyal customer such as yourself. You have to realize the amount of "rats" we deal with on a daily basis.

For Example:

Customer "A" has a $99 triple play. So he pays $99 for cable, internet and phone. It's a 12 month promotion and after one year it will increase to say $145-$150. Customer "A" was CLEARLY informed of this when starting service.

The day his promotion expires customer "A" will call in and say hes cancelling his service unless he gets the identical rate. Since I started about a year ago they would just give him the $99 bundle again. We had this for a specific example in todays meeting. This customer "A" was a real person, and actually got away with this for FIVE years. Now multiply that by the THOUSANDS of rats that do the same shit every time there promotion expires.

I tell every person that gets service from me, "THIS IS A X PERIOD PROMOTION, AFTER "X" TIME YOUR PRICE WILL INCREASE TO "X" AND WILL NOT GO BACK DOWN". So when that person calls back in 6 months later the management can listen to my call when the customer tells them I told them their price was good forever. People are ignorant. If I tell you this is going to go up "X" amount 6 months from now, and your not happy paying for that, why would you sign up in the first place?

If you are paying full price and you call in now, they might put one product on a short promotion, or give you a monthly discount of $10 and a free premium channel to keep you a loyal customer..something like that. But from my understanding they were VERY clear NO ONE in my call center is to rebundle any one what so ever. They have to go to the retention department. To elaborate on re bundling, if you have cable TV and internet. I ccannot put you on a promotion for the same identical products you have now at a much cheaper rate. I can roll you on a triple play bundle if you add a service though.

If any of you worked in a call center and knew what kind of BULLSHIT you go through, you would give me a lot more levy here. Please don't act like I made this policy, someone who drives a Bugatti did. Not me. I've helped a lot of people on here with their bill, and I will try the same for anyone else who has the time to send me a PM. If I can't help I'll point you in the right direction. :)

I have Dish and I like it. I've had everything but U-verse. Dish has been the best for the money. Yes, it does go out every once in a while, but not enough to make a difference

i just dsl reported my comcast connection... this is from southfield to denver co.

789kb/s download, 2000kb/s upload

faster then you can really ever use.

I feel the same way. I like comcast, but its just too much money.

This exactly what speed I get on a good torrent on my 8mb connection from WOW. Fast enough for all but the biggest downloads IMO.

sounds to me like an install issue. I've never head a problem, other than an extreme storm in the summer. And how often do those happen? I'm willing to not have service for a few minutes while a storm passes through, than to deal with Comcast cable garbage. Their advertising is so deceptive regarding their HD lineup. individual Shows DO NOT count as HD programming...

DirecTV FTW!

well its mostly in storms and doesnt happen everytime but enough to drive me crazy and i dont even live there. sorry i just could not deal with it, i would rather have 100% uptime and not as good a lineup than 98% uptime and better lineup. there is more than enough HD channels to keep me happy.

I'm not trying to say this in any negative way but people ONLY choose these rates because of the promo rate and fully expect to drop it after the promo period ends if they can't get that rate again. You might view them as rats but they're the only trying to get the best deal. It's only natural to follow the best deal.
