What's reasonable for kitchen counter replacement?

My house is not expensive and will be getting the granite treatment, or some other solid surface.....

Honestly I don't really like it, but HGTV does and that's all that matters.

I'd have recycled glass or concrete in a house I was keeping forever

Agreed. That's all people look for. Cabinets are far more important, IMO. Your kitchen looks really nice.
