Washer & dryer shopping, no clue what to get...

I just had to buy a new set. I did a lot of research online and the front loads get mixed reviews. There are good ones, but they are not all the same. They do save water. In the end, I went with a traditional top load machine. There are not many left, most are the new energy efficient ones that use minimal water.
Anyway, I ended up getting a top loading washer and dryer set from Speed Queen. They make commercial washer/dryers, so I expect to have them a while. The set cost me about 1200. Not cheap, but they are actually made in the USA. I don't mind paying a little more for the durability and US manufacture. Good Luck.

Whatever you do do not purchase LG's they fucking suck. We have had our LG TROMM washer and dryer now for 6 years or so and the dryer drum is cracked at the seam. LG has a huge problem with their dryers and the seam failing, it's ALL over the internet. If you have an LG front Load dryer and your seam is not cracked yet, just wait, it will and LG does nothing about a known problem. Cost is $450 to get it repaired and those that have done so said that it will fail again and has for a few people.
 
Heres some good real world advice. The company I work for have over 35 pairs of whirlpool Duet front load washer and dryers, they get used FAR more than a traditional household would use and we have very little problems with them. For the washers, we typically have a select few houses in which the people do not clean out their pockets and we get a call that theres an error code, not cycling/emptying, making racket. Its normally as simple as pulling the lower panel and unscrewing the pump camp and cleaning out a handful of change. On the dryers we typically get thermal fuse failures which is a simple cheap fix. And for the both washer and dryers we sometimes go through hinges/handles. Overall I am very impressed with their durability and function and they are fairly simple to work on despite how they look. I spent $1000 on a front loader and I wouldn't do it again... It seems like it's just stupid trendy "newest coolest blah blah" stuff for women to try to one up each other. Oh so-and-so got the new front loaders? Well we got the next model up. Blah. Stupid overpriced hype. They take longer, they don't balance, they wear out quicker, they get moldy and they use more expensive detergent. And screw paying $1000 for a dryer... A good simple gas dryer can do the job for 20 years... I mean come on... It's a gas burner a motor and a timer!

I got a set of Kenmore Elite top of the line HE washer & dryer from the Sears scratch & dent sales. Found the washer in Bloomfield Hills store and dryer down at the store in Westland. Paid less than half of new MSRP for both and nothing wrong with either one.

I got the Top load washer to avoid those seal mold issues and it had a larger capacity (4.5 CU FT) than most front load. Also got the HUGE 7.3 CU FT dryer. I went electric because I didn't want to mess with gas. I was lucky enough to get a matched set but had to work for it. It was worth the savings we saw. The washer had a dent that bumped out at the store while we were in line paying for it. And the dryer had some light surface scratches on the finish. No biggie because there will be plenty more over time.

Had them for about a year now and they are great! No problems, and very efficient. Sounds like a dang jetplane on the high speed spin cycle if you are in the room. :lol:
 
I bought Samsung front loading washer and dryer a few years ago. Very happy with the dryer. Only issues I have with the washer are that I do have to leave the door open to dry out when not in use and that I also have to watch how much clothing I stuff in the washer. If it is too much, it cause a ton of vibration during spin cycles and won't drain properly. I was used to my Kenmore top loading washer where I could stuff in as much stuff as I wanted with no problem. As for water usage, I didn't really see a huge difference on my water bill.
 
Check out Speed Queen if you are interested in top load machines. They make commercial units and home units. I just bought a pair for around 1200. That's my limit for a washer and dryer. After a lot of research, I was concerned about the quality of a front load washer in my price range. Speed queen is also American made, which means something to me.

Check out Speed Queen, they are american made. They cost a little more, but have a 3year warranty. I did not get a front load because of the mixed reviews online. The speed queen washer/dryer pair cost me around 1200 for the pair.
