Undercoat Car?

I'm fairly new to MI and have spent the last 10 "winters" in either CA, AZ, or FL. I had my old fastback done when I was restoring it in high school, but is there a benefit of undercoating newer cars? Is this a popular thing to have done up here? Thanks in advance!

That's a good question. I've been asking the same thing lately. Years ago taking your car to Zebart par for the course. Now it seems to have fallen out of favor? I have a new truck myself and the last one (2001) got rusty. Some say the current cars have better rust deterrent. True?

For $350-450 it's a small price to pay on a $30-40K vehicle to at least slow/prevent/protect from rust. $45 a year re-touches. I'd rather pay up front than try to clean up a 10yr old truck that's starting to show....... Is it perfect, probably not, but it should look better than other vehicles after 10 yrs that haven't done it.

We have a place out here in A2 that does it, but if you can get over to Canada, they have some wax oil stuff that is suppose to be great. I don't know if it's still the same.

Hey Trunk, I'm doing it with my dually, 2 places in Windsor....call Krown corrosion, google them. Only last one year but I'm good with that as opposed to have rubber shit all over.

Yep, that's the stuff. For some reason we can have it here in the US. Something tells me the EPA standards are too tight.

There is another place in upstate NY I think.....not the same company but similar. I won't have them drill any holes to spray in, just have the undercarriage done....it's cheap, why not.

Best stuff I found was Texaco Rustproofing. It is 'waxy' and does not dry out. I got it done at a place on Outer Drive and Michigan Ave in Dearborrn. I would check into that. I got it done about 15yrs ago on my truck and it does not have any rust hole.

I think texaco stopped making the compound around 2008, could be wrong though.

this was the (place) to get it done for years wayy better than ziebart used to call it getting the car (greased ) I remember my dad taking a car he bought for my mother there in the early 70's back when they used to rust out in 4 to 5 years I remember the old wagon body was still goin strong at 10 years old when my parents sold it

It's worth a phone call. I did a quick web search and it looks like they were still doing it in 2010. If I got another truck I would do it again.

The cars in the 70's seemed to disintegrate after 2 winters...

I recently had my sons Raptor and my H2 done at Ziebart on telegraph in Dearborn. They use the wax stuff in the doors and rockers, the thick black undercoat on the frame, underside , wheel wells etc. To keep the warranty valid you must return each year for a touch up and re coat for $50. It is worth it if you plan on keeping the vehicle especially those rust prone Fords!

Then the entire underneath looks like shit IMO.

Is there any product or company that will stop the bottom seam on a door, tailgate or liftgate from rusting?!?!? Both my Rangers rusted out there and now my wifes Escape is already rusting on the liftgate and it is only 2 years old..........and I always keep my cars clean, even in the winter.

Definitely. I've been researching how well Krown stuff holds up over the years, and it seems to be ticket.
