turbo guys come in! oil pressure issue

UPDATE!

the good-
Found the issue. Teflon tape before my "y" plate caused a blockage. removed my turbo feed and the gage port and turned the engine over, no oil....im like shittt. pulled the "Y" plate and boom had oil flowing out fast. gauge shows 60 PSI pressure at cold idle now.

The bad-
Took her on the first test drive in 2 years last night and think the turbo is smoked. after i fixed the blockage (which was before my turbo feed and pressure gauge), she dident smoke at all. took her down the street and came back for the first time and now shes smoken like a mofo out the exhaust.

have you guys ever seen just the exhaust seal on a turbo let loose and not the intake seal? no oil inside my intake pipes, the engine runs good still, tons of smoke out the exhaust. I mean tons!

oh yea...

no restrictors on my oil feed, but i dident have any before and it worked fine.

take a picture or describe your return.

Are there any low points or weird turns in the line?

What size return.

If the return has a dip or low point, the oil will back up and make the turbo smoke.

5/8 return straight down off the turbo, nice, smooth angle into the pan above the oil fill line. no kinks. no dips or anything weird. i ran the same set up on my 302 with no issues.

the reason i really think its smoked is because it has had the blockage since i started the engine...so little to no oil pressure to the turbo in an hour or so run time.

afer reading some...think im gonna try to restrict it later on and see if it works. to much oil with a -4 line @60 PSI maybe.

no, I have never ran a restrictor with -4AN ever...and thats on 10+ turbo combinations.

If its not the return line, then its the seal in the turbo.

Or if the smoke is mostly on deccel, this will sound crazy but just try pulling your oil fill cap off and ranning it again!! I just helped with a stock motor turbo mustang and it was smoking so bad u would loss site of the car for behind. It didn't hv enough crankcase ventilation and was building pressure. Pulled the filler cap off and ran the car and after the oil burnt out of the exhaust it stopped. Built a couple more vents of the valve covers and the problem was fixed!!

This guy sounds like he's onto something. You MUST have a PCV/Evac system or that oil has nowhere to go.

ya I would say for sure don't go buying a new turbo yet man, I mean it kinda scares me abit knowing u may have staved the turbo for a bit the other day but I'm sure there was some lube in it for new or previous so hopefully its still all good!

Yep been there done that, if it gets bad enough it will pop the dipstick out on a supercharged car.. If that dosn't work try taking the return line off at the pan and see if you have flow thru the head unit.

Pete, look up a guy who goes by the username Holset35 on here. He set me straight on what restrictors were needed to keep the engine, and turbo happy. You're gauge issue may not be along these lines though from the way it sounds.

Take the DP and intake charge pipe off. Look in the turbo housings for fresh oil. If its beyond residue coating, and you have puddles of oil, time for new seals.

update!

Worked all day and night on Friday till 6 am Saturday morning, slept 3 hours till 9 am, woke up, contracted a friend to finish a few loose ends while i drove to Kalamazoo and picked up a new turbo, we made no et by 10 pm Saturday.

first run attempt, blew a innercooler pipe off at the line while staging.

second attempt, made a pass but the tune was lean,

by time we made it to our third attempt, Milan was about to close, and we blew another pipe off staging.

fixed all my pipes yesterday, made a street test hit and the tunes still off. i found a guy who dyno tunes my programmer so the cars going to him next.

a little hair spray inside the coupler and on the charge pipe before you slide them together will help keep them together, blowing charge pipes off is such a pain in the ass. especially when it's a hard to reach one inside the bumper or something.

Never heard that one before
