Turbo Fox build..E85...Streetcar

Well after a few years of my stock block turbo adventure I finally popped a headgasket. I suppose I could of just put a new set of gaskets in, but I decided to step it up a notch.

I pulled the stock bottom ended HCI 5.0 out, sold the On3 turbo kit and all the aftermarket goodies from that engine.

My goal with this phase of the build is ~1000hp, running off E85. The turbo that I have will be pretty much maxed out at this level, but hopefully it will crank. :icon_cool I'd like to make it to the track next year for some events and actually be able to hold my own, we'll see.

First started with a set of AFR 205 heads used of a former member on here..then I picked up a shortblock setup for Nitrous with dome pistons, consisting of a Boss block, Eagle H-beams, and Eagle forged steel crank. I bought this with the intent to just change pistons and be on my merry way, but it didnt happen quite that easy.

Details of the new build so far..

Boss Block 4.125 bore (Big bore 347)
Custom Diamond Forced induction pistons. 10.25:1 Static Compression ratio
Eagle 4340 Forged 3.25 stroke
Eagle 5.4 Rods with ARP 2000 bolts
AP Steel/Napier second file fit rings
Custom Hydraulic Roller Turbo Cam spec'd by MCRP
AFR 205 58cc Outlaw heads, Inconel Exhaust Valves
Engine will be fully studded

Garrett GT4202R
Custom Hotside, flipped shorty headers
Undecided on cold side
Team Z metal Matrix K-member and A-arms
Flaming river manual rack and steering shaft

Still to be determined:
Fuel System
Cage
Rear Suspension (Probably Team Z)
Wheels
Engine Management (Leaning towards Holley HP EFI)

Car looks good! I would have tried to do it with the big compression pistons! :) People keep pushing E85 harder and harder.

Took me a little bit to get the damn steering shaft figured out. I thought for sure I was going to have to shorten it. Little did I know that the shaft coming out through the firewall just needs a little bit of persuasion to push in.

Made alot of progress today. Got the rings all filed, bearing clearances checked, cam in, and started assembled the pistons/rods and got a couple of them dropped in the block. I'm starting to get excited now, after spending all this money the stuff is starting to come together .

Pictures coming. Uploader is giving me errors
 
Oh and a question some of you might be able to answer. When I originally tore this thing apart the crank sprocket for the timing chain (A rollermaster) was a complete mother to get off. Well of course trying to get it back on is going the same way. Are these known for being a super tight fit? I grabbed the stock 5.0 one and it slides right on. I will basically have to beat the other one to get it back on, and god forbid if I have to adjust the cam timing from 0. Should I warm the gear up in the oven?

-Per Total Seal's instructions, these rings should have an end gap of .022" for the top ring and .014" on the bottom ring. Talking to some engine builders and a bit of research online came up with guys running boosted engines with the ring gap bigger on the bottom ring. Apparently this helps prevent lifting a ring land due to boost getting trapped in between the compression rings. So final verdict was .022" top and .024" on the bottom.
