This place has died.........

I've always loved Android, goes hand in hand with my Linux usage and the ability to manipulate the operating system and make it do what I want. I'm the sort of person that buys most things based upon what I can make it do. I remember 5 years ago, I walked into the Apple Store to buy an Apple TV 2 for the purpose of hacking it into a media center. The salesman tried talking me into a warranty and I had to explain to him it was going to be voided in short order and that it'll be far more functional than what it is off the shelf. The guy ended up looking at me like I was from another planet. So much for "geniuses"

Whats funny is an iphone still needs a normal pc for its assembly line and build process at the factory they are made at....you dont see an apple computer hooked up to a haas cnc

Eh where'd you read that? To program a machine maybe, but most machines are siemens, allen bradley, ect. controlled.

It's not this place, it's smart phones in general. Hasn't been much that revolutionary in quite some time...

Most things that use silicon have plateaued the last couple of years. For example, I've been using my i5 2500k desktop for almost 6 years, and it's only 20% slower than the newer i5 6600k. Bumping up the clock speed by 1400MHz more than makes up for it. Back 15 years ago, a 2 or 3 year old CPU was good enough to toss in the trash.

Not feeling the new price structure 900 bucks for a phone? Damn
They start at $650 for the 32 GB version.
You're going to pay full price for the phone either up front or being strung along with an extra $30-40/month.
The Apple financing plan allows for early upgrades and includes Apple Care.. It's a 24 month plan but you can upgrade after 6 or 12 I think.
The site didn't say if you monthly payment just gets extended even further at that point or if you have to pay it off.. I assume you have to trade the phone in.
Not sure but I'd prefer to pay once and have an unlocked phone that I own and can sell or do as I please with.

It has taken since 2010 for my desktop (runs 24/7 sans power outages) up until this year and getting into photo edited with a modern camera to start to show its weaknesses. Granted, it is a $400 Best Buy special from 2012 that isn't really up-gradable due to it begin that low end. If I didn't switch to Google Fi, I would still be using my Moto X (gen 1) which, I fully plan to go back to when Google opens up their service to it.

The OG Moto X is still a fantastic phone. I have a 2014 which is nice, but I wish it was the same size as the first gen. Moto has been sloppy with updates, so I ended up flashing CrDroid and it's much better. Moto had me on a testing release for months and I got fed up waiting for them to roll out the official OTA.
