I think the autobahn is made for high speed driving. The streets around here are not safe for the legal speeds let alone anything 100+ mph

Totally not true. Yes the autobahn is much better, but it's not so much better that speeds can routinely crest 120mph for traffic and have a much lower death per mile traveled.

The safety comes from GOOD DRIVER TRAINING. End of story. I learned to drive in the pain in the ass British School of Motoring and that shit is the reason they don't suffer the same fatality rates, yet drive much faster. People in America simply can't follow the rules of the road, and get their licenses too soon, under too little scrutiny. You know what happens when you are driving 100mph and a car comes up behind at 120? You get the fuck over. You don't cruise in the fast lane. You merge at speed. If someone signals to move over, you LET THEM OVER, not try to jam them or speed up to prevent them from doing so. You pass on one side. It goes on and on.

I drove 2 hours each day when I first moved to england and the pace of traffic stayed at around 90mph often. The limit was 55. Rarely did I see any kind of major accident.

The only thing I miss about Europe is the fact people can drive.

Your right so why would a trained driver drive like that around a bunch of dumb untrained drivers. It was reckless he put his and everyones life on the line for no reason.

I can see where PurpleHaze is coming from. I don't like whne people go that fast and weave in and out of traffic. Things can and will go wrong extremely fast as those speeds.

Stirring the pot.

rules are made to be broken.

Why do it during the day when people are all over the road driving like assholes? Why not do it at night when there is less traffic?

Come on, your gonna sit here and say that it is not a very dumb thing to drive through traffic , weaving in and out and at twice the legal speed limit?
All it would take is for one person the change lanes at a bad time and it could of been a huge accident.
I've driven in the 110-120ish range and I was an idiot for that BUT atleast I wasn't swearving in and out of traffic in the middle of the day.

yeah but they were in cars made to go that fast and handle better

Indeed. 5 years and the only redeeming quality I could find was excellent drivers. It's a fucking INEXCUSABLE disaster that the U.S government (federal, state, local, whoever) continues to allow 45,000 people to die every year by putting shitty drivers on the road.

It's not the governments responsibilty to make sure people aren't idiots.

It is their responsibility to adequately regulate who gets on the road.
The first time I drove in the U.S on my own, I passed my driver test with a perfect score. It took me about 15 minutes. It wasn't as difficult as the first five minutes I spent in the BSM.

My Dad, who had driven for 30 years in the U.S without incident, failed his UK test. That's how anal retentive can be (and of course they just like sticking it to the American)

speed limit is only a suggestion

Until the pro driver lives on your street and starts going up and down it at 60mph in a 25 and splaters your kid all the way down the street.
