Thinking of getting a Pit

Found her on craigslist... owner runs a kennel and saves dogs. Haven't got the full story on her yet. Seems eager to get rid of her though. He said she is tiny, probably the runt of the litter. These pics are at 4 and 1/2 months old, which is recent. Said she is good with other dogs, which is good cause we already have a male pit mix in the house that's about 4 years old. Supposed to bring her by this weekend to the house to see if she gets along with Rocco (male pit). We will see what happens. She is so fu'kin cute tho I cant get over it.

dog looks cute

#1 - PIT is a ghetto term.

#2 - Has this owner had this dog since it was born or was it a rescue?

You really need to understand that dogs history before you take it into your home, especially around other dogs. Especially a female.

Do your homework and be careful ;)

good looking dog. i'd say do it, just make sure their interaction is 100% supervised for at least the first month or so.

Sorry, how about... american staffordshire terrier then.. ?

I think it was a rescue.. gonna find out when he calls me. Was supposed to call me last night but never did. I have a lot of questions for him, so we will see what happens. If anyone knows of any american staffordshire terriers :jagoff: LOL that are for adoption let me know. Been wanting one for a while, just haven't gone through with it yet.

As Joe said PLEASE do your homework and be careful.

Is she deaf? Just curious as alot of all white dogs are. Check and see as that will require a little extra work for you.

Keep in mind that she is young and most likely why she gets along with dogs. There is a possibility she may become dog aggressive as she gets older as it is common with the breed. You may end up in a crate and rotate situation when she is older.

I am a member on www.pitbullforum.com They have alot of good information on owning multiple dogs.

Check out here a little down the page about multiple dogs and dog aggression

Aside from that she looks very cute!

AmStaff does not = "Pit." :shake:

I think you need to do a LOT of homework before you own ANY bully breed.

Thanks Shelly, I have actually been googling pits for the past couple of days trying to read up on multiple dogs etc... I'm gonna start reading right now.

Man I love slow days at work LOL :)

You can laugh and post your little jack-off smilie all you want. You are getting some GOOD advice in this thread. Please read it before you adopt any pitbull/bully breed.

Actually, they are pretty much the same thing, it just depends on the bloodline. Like I said above I've been reading alot these past few days on these dogs.

The difference between Pits and American Staffordshire Terriers is a difficult one. Even breeders can't agree. The main difference is the bloodline. Amstaffs are show dogs and dog fighters won't use dogs with Amstaff blood. As time progresses there will be more of a difference. Many are duel registered as Amstaffs with the AKC and Pits with the UKC.

Hey, I was only jokin around... I know what they are called. You knew what I meant when I said Pit in the first place. And, I already have a 4 year old pit in the house.... so I appreciate the help but if you're gonna talk to me like a little kid, please dont talk at all.

You need to take this adoption seriously. I don't joke around about this and neither should you.

Wow... seriously? Step back and take a deep breath. I am not taking this lightly... i've owned many dogs my whole life and my parents ran a rescue and training facility growing up. I know the responsibilities involved. I was joking about the name in the first place, not about the adoption.

Good to hear :D

I really hope it works out for you and you can give another dog a great home.

Shelly I was told that was a myth by some bitch on the board ;)

Hmmm.....I've been told it wasn't by some people. Maybe it is a breed thing. But I do know that every deaf pit bull I have heard about was pure white. Of course I am sure there are ones out there that are different colors. I also know quite a few people with pure white pit bulls that can hear too.....actually an awesome looking adult male that is all white and can hear is up for adoption on the west side of the state.

I know of an 10-12 week old American Pitbull puppy for free. A coworker of mine had this dog follow him home and he can not keep her. She has a small problem with other dogs and it looks as if she was gonna be used to fight, she has some scares on her face. If you want more info give him a call.
