Hey tin, not sure it you know anything about record players but my dad just have my gf his ok record collection and was just curious about what player preferable used would be descent to use for them?

I just stole a pair of these from my dads basement..... Where can I get newer drivers to make them actually sound good?? lol

Do you know the diameter of the drivers? I know the most common size is 40mm, but you might wanna have a look first. I know there are some places that sell raw headphone drivers.
 
What is everyones thoughts on a ipod nano? I am thinking of getting one to replace my five or six year old ipod. I am just looking for something small and simple for music while I am at work. I rather not use my phone for that. I will being using sennheiser px200 head phones. I hate ear buds.
 
The iPod Nano is nice for what it is. My main gripe about Apple products is having to use iTunes to load em up with music. If you use iTunes for the majority of your music management, you cant go wrong. If youre not already tied up with iTunes, the Sandisk Sansa series players are good. You can drag and drop your music to the player, and it supports more, and better formats, such as FLAC and ogg Vorbis. With all that, theres also the Samsung Galaxy S player, which is in the same price range as the iPod Nano, but also has a beefier output section, better DAC, and can take SD cards as well as use its integrated storage. Lots of options out there to pick from. Like I was saying, if youre already using iTunes, grab a Nano. If not, the other options are better.
 
Any good receiver recommendations. Looking at spending around $500. My room is wired for 5.1. I've seen onkyo receivers like the 616 or the 818, but i'm not really sure if I need all the features that the 818 has. I do use 3D occasionally so it would need to support that. I'm not deadset on onkyo either. I just know they are pretty well liked by everything.

Im a big fan of the newer Marantz line of surround receivers, theyre excellent for the money, much more so than their Pioneer, Onkyo, and Yamaha equivalents. One thing youll notice about "Best Buy" receivers such as the brands I listed, they all rate their THD at 10W output...the more volume you want, the more distortion you get. The Marantz Slim Line receivers may only be rated for ~50WPC, but keep in mind their THD specs are rated at full output and not at 10W like the big box store equipment. The Marantz will deliver clean and quality power, while the other brands will deliver the power, but they wont keep it clean. I have recenlty purchased two speakers from ebay site. Not yet installed hopw they work fine.

Downloaded the first 4 Gun N Roses 24K Gold MFSL albums, they sound incredible. The song Civil War has never sounded this good...whoever mastered this shit has good ears. Playing the original and the MFSL side by side, theres no comparison. The original is grainy, brickwalled, and missing all of the ambiance. On a side note, I have almost the full MFSL collection coming in as we speak :).

I love the MFSL albums. They almost always are quite noticeably better even on crappy gear. I wish there wasn't a need for them though. :(
