State Senate approved gas tax hike

There are many variables that could explain away the tax rate vs road conditions relative to other states such as the number of of miles of roads in Michigan (enormous), generous trucking transport weight limits, previous neglect which needs to be remediated, etc.

I'm no fan of handing over money blindly, I'm just approaching this from the perspective that I want better roads and more money is the only way the state will achieve that end.

I think the state DOT is manned by idiots personally. How else do we have four lanes of I75 at Birch Run but only three lanes from 8 mile to M-59? The way the state has spent our tax money is horrible. But I agree with you, I don't see how else to do it.

Only it's not 7.3 cents a gallon you're paying, it's 26.3 cents total. 5th highest in the nation. Like I've said before, it's not a matter of not enough funding. It's a matter of piss poor management.

And for years ours was lower than 38 states. Our roads need fixed, the money isnt going to come from anywhere else. Our choices were either let the roads get even worse, or pay more money to fix them. SInce hitting one pothole will most likely cost me a lot more than the 250 a year in gas taxes, im not going to be pissed at the governor who inherited the mess.

Still waiting for you to post the "tweaks" you claimed was all that was needed.

You need to ask how the republicans are gonna replace it? And why is trump reorganizing the cia? He knows more than the experts? You deplorables have elected a dictator!

You just proved my point from before

Answering a question with a question. Actually multiple questions. Awesome! You get a gold star. :)

The republicans have no plan.

Some of us don't want our lives centrally planned by the government.

We want freedom to live our lives and enter into voluntary arrangements with whomever we like (businesses).

Obamacare caused my out-of-pocket for insurance to double this year. That means my paychecks are smaller this year and I have a couple thousand fewer dollars to support my family.

My rates doubled not to cover me but to subsidize someone else - so they can get an Obamacare plan that is only
$50/month.

Screw that. If government is going to be involved it should be to limit price gouging, allow for open and competitive markets, etc.

It's a simple answer really......space. There is no room to widen the road south of M-59......up by Birch Run there is nothing but fields adjacent to the roadway.

Regardless, the I-75 Mega Project which began this past year has MDOT adding another lane (not widening I-75) by putting up median barrier and adding a lane towards the roadway centerline. It's a 20 year buildout.

On another note this got signed into law by Snyder:

Reduces the number of points that can be assessed on a drivers’ license from two points to one for driving 5 m.p.h. over the speed limit. Violations of 15 m.p.h. over the speed limit would come with two points on a drivers’ license.

What was 15 over before? 3 points?

That's not too bad if that's the case. I think in VA, 15 over is a reckless driving.

Doesn't insurance still assess their own points based on the infraction regardless of the points the state is using?
