Alright St. Ignace people, it's about time we decide what the camping group wants to do for sleeping/hangout arrangements for St. Ignace 2009.

Straits Upper Campground, like usual...
Pros: Nice showers and shitters, we're able to pick what site we stay on and how close we are to our friends, cheap...$25-$30 a night per campsite.
Cons: DNR douchebags trying to keep up quieter than necessary.

KOA
Pro: Known for being a lot more "party friendly," has cabins available for rent
Cons: Not familiar with campground layout or facilities. Unable to choose what site you and your friends book.
If KOA does end up being the majority vote, who wants cabins and who wants to stick it out with tents?

Also, who (as of right now) is planning on going this upcoming year?

Straights blew ass......The whole "lights out" thing at 11 was silly. I think KOA would be better but i was unaware that we were able to pick our site. Maybe if we said we have X amount of campers can we all stick together they would work something out?

When myself and Ryan looked into KOA a few years back they wanted us to pay upfront to reserve sites, but would arrange and give them to us when we got there. I was told that "regulars" get preference, so we would get what was left over. We were never willing to take the chance that they might put us next to familys or whatever that would want it quiet. There might not be DNR, but you're just not gonna get away with being loud all night if you are next to someone who doesn't like it. That is the worst case scenario. Best case, they would give us sites off to the corner or something where we would be less bothersome to others and it all works out great.

I'm up in the air as to where I want to stay. When it was over last year my initial thoughts were Straits lower campground with some nice sites by the water or Kewadin Hotel. I might double book with the hotel as a backup if the weather looks bleak the week of.

I think you guys should book at KOA and maybe try it out. I don't think I will however. Its probably gonna be Straits lower/Kewadin for me, at least right now.

KOA would be bad ass if you could get the kabins up in the corner. They make a semi-circle and would be perfect, but as John said, you pre-pay and when you get there, you get assigned your spot. you pick either a 'camping' or a kabin spot. Kabins are nice as they range from ones with full kitchens and bath to just a bunk bed, pull out bed, heater, and that's it.

Steph and I are planning on going, but her family is already demanding a week of our time during the month of June. I can't take 2 weeks off, so I need to start telling them to go to hell now so I don't have huge arguments when we don't show up to their rediculous demands.

The Straights lower area was nice. Although it was ALL families. Jeff and I drove thru there and i think it was more calm then where we were on the upper section. As far As KOA who dictates if your regulars or not? That doesnt make much sense. A hotel isnt a bad idea in the case of bad weather but i think as a group camping it the way to go. It would be nice to keep everyone that is going together seeing how the size of the group is getting smaller every year.

i stayed at koa up there and paid for a cabins 2 years ago and we got three in a row like we wanted

KOA keeps records of their clients. They know who comes each year and when they come. Most of these people don't just show up at a minutes notice either. They book a year in advance. My ex's family did that and had the same spots every year because of it.

Unless the group gets down to about 10 people in size, there's really no point in trying to all stay together. Different people want to do different things. Some people have been up there so many years in a row now that they want to go elsewhere and do something more "sight seeing". Others who haven't been there for 3 or more years may want to do all the show related things. Getting your own personal "group' of people you hang out with and doing things with them isn't wrong. We all don't have to do what the others want to. If you don't want to do something that's fine. Just have a set spot where you can lounge/party and I guarantee you that outside of the activities during the day people will find that spot and there won't be a problem with there being plenty of fun.

it doesnt matter to me...john you let me know what to do when to do like every year so far.

the first year i went..it was a huge disapointment. I drover the car not more then a day. Didnt even make it to the show. The cost of me going and taking the car was a huge WASTE! There wasnt anything out there car related that was even remotely fun.
