Somebody needs to buy this...

Do you guys think this is something that could be daily driven in the summer? About 60 miles round trip to and from work.

7k he better stop drinking so he can think a little more clear

I know the guy. I know the car. He will take less I know, but $7K is not out of line for an asking price. He just spent $1,500 on the wheels and tires, and the engine and trans are fresh. It is a nice 45 year old classic. You don't see many around as nice as this one. If it was an all original, immaculate car, because it is a factory 440 car, Haggerty says it would be worth around $20 grand.

So knowing the car, outside of the gas price, do you think it could be a sturdy daily summer time driver the way it sits?

727 is a 3 speed, right? I guess I need to find out what gear it has. I know my Dakota had anoxio 3:90 in it and with the 3 speed I would turn like 3 grand to do 65mph. It was obnoxious.

The 727 is a 3 speed. It has a highway-ish gear in it, probably a 2.94 or maybe 3.23. We drove it to Columbus Ohio for the Mopar Nationals three years ago and it was fine. I think we averaged 10 or 11 miles per gallon. That was before the fresh engine and trans. I think the speedo is off if I remember right so it may need a new speedo gear. Check it out, drive it, make an offer.

I drive my 70 imperial every day. It's running a tad rich right now and gets around 11-13 in the city. Rebuilt 440/727/2.94 rear gear. Just took it on a 100 mile trip Sunday, didn't miss a beat. And I'd guess that New Yorker is a 4000-5000 dollar car. It looks nice, but it has too many doors to get 7k, but who knows. I had a mint, and I mean mint low mile 67 two door, fresh paint, new tires and rims, cold a/c, beautiful interior and I had to fight to get 5k for it. And that was back when times were better.

Pics of said Newport:

Let me try again to clear this up. Nobody ever said he would get $7K, but it is a reasonable asking price for this car. That means he expects to get something less than $7K.

That Newport is sweet. A buddy had one that same color in high school 383 car. Love those two doors.

I'm not knocking the car at all. I actually re-read the ad, 7k isn't bad considering what's done to the car. I hope he gets it, or close to it. Just gotta find the right ass for the seat, C-bodies are a tough sell.

No I didn't think you were knocking it. C-bodies are tough especially with no re-pop parts, etc. Not to mention they are big heavy barges, but like you said, find the right ass...

He will def take less than $7k...

I think I'm gonna pass on it. I've been wanting a C5 forever, and I'm going to keep looking for what I want.

Good call. C5s are fabulous machines. The fuel economy is unbelievable for the performance they offer. When mine was stock it ran 13.2 in the quarter and I could get 31+ mpg on the highway.

The classics look cool but...
