so what happened to the detroit dragway? Its history?

Whats left of the track is not much to get excited about. last time I was there I saw 3 torn up buildings and the wood outline of a board they must have used to advertise races and a pole with a speaker still attached. Just knowing your on the land of a former nationally known dragstip is cool. I wish it would reopen but people these days are such pussies and hate any kind of noise. They appose the thought of a dragstrip because they moved out there to get away from all the nose of the city.

That is the only real reason I'd like to go.

Its really sad to see what ruins are left and knowing as long as the people in that city are going to be stuck up little pussies and vote no right out the gate for a drag strip we will never have anything really close for a very long time. Someone should just buy a bunch of land and build one for his or her private use and just invite some friends to run there too on weekends:thumbsup:

I know man. You got that right. They think they live in the country....that's hardly the country anymore. There is a Meijer right off the freeway now. There are no Meijers in the country, they need to go further north.

What are the laws on building on privately? Say someone bought that area, land and all. Put up a house, pole barn, and say an 1/8 mile track. If they were only running during the day, and not past sunset where noises levels need to be gone by 11, what could the law do if you owned the property???

I may go out there this week (26 mile) my buddy lives right by there we may go ask the neighbors for their blessing first.

How about on Mound Rd, south of 8 mile south of Prestige Auto Parts? That's an old Chrysler plant right? That place is HUGE and abandoned.

If the dumb ass city council would open their eyes and read the paper and see how many street racing accidents there are or knew as many people as we do, that pertake in this activity, they would see that there is a lot of money to be made in building a strip. People would stay safe, the business itself, and surrounding businesses would make money and so would the city itself.

Wow....that was a long sentence.

yea how much you think they want for that....a lot of money

Well, someone could buy it. The guy that owns the Ambassador Bridge and the Train Station has Billions of dollars. He should do it. Be a part of the city where you own to major things...make that city some money too.

i dont think you could beat the state fairgrounds. If you take that whole chunk of land you can put a strip in it just over 3/4 of a mile long...and its off woodward...that would be amazing.

Hell yeah it would. Go cruise, race, then go cruise again. There would be tons of restaurants, party stores and bars packed before, during and after. They just don't understand how much money they would make. Milan was packed....and it's 70 miles away!! If Detroit made a drag strip I'm sure there are many people who would go racing more often since they don't have to spend money on gas and take an hour and a half to get there.

I don't know about your Viper, but my car used a little over 3/4 of a tank to Milan and back, with 4 passes at Milan too.

It's crazy how much time you have to spend to get a few passes in at Milan. Some of the best times I've had were out at Lapeer racing the other street cars, making 50 passes. Some of the worst were at Lapeer also when you couldn't hook with a top fuel slick. My next built car is going to be a road course car, talk about track time.

I had a few friends that said you had to watch you stuff at DD towards the end. One buddy went out to DD, made a pass, and when he came back to his truck his tool box and other shit was gone!
