so what happened to the detroit dragway? Its history?

I have a sticker on my back window on my 86 ranger that says: Motor city dragway class winner? What year did this place close? Im pretty sure it closed before my truck was made.

yeah thats it, we went there back in 2000 to check it out. you can get to it off of meldrum road if you walk, but its all overgrown with trees and a fence.

Plus the neighbors wont hesitate to call the PD of they see you out there. They are major dick heads

I was gonna ask if we could go there sometime this year to look, but I figured it was over grown. Do you guys think the neighbors would be that pist? What could the PD get you for...? trespassing, right? It doesn't look like there are many houses...but that pic might be 2-3 years old.

I mean...this thread alone might spark up some interest and all the sudden 50 people make a trip up there within the next week.

i'm down to go whenever you want...i'm thinking it would be better in the fall when the brush thins out though

oh and since we are on the subject, does anyone know of any prime real estate near metro detroit where a drag strip would fit nicely

best time to go is in the fall mid day when the neighbors are at work. I have heard people getting trespassing tickets. The cops don't like people hanging around over there because the few building left standing could fall and they don't want a lawsuit against the city if someone dies or get injured

What ever happened to Flint getting a dragstrip?

I searched online and cant find anything pass Sept 2008 about it. It states the the residents were protesting the plan for a full time dragstrip. Delphi was to donate vacant land they have for the city to be built on.

I'll go whenever. The Fall would be a great time because it will be nice, but with the brush thinned out, we'd be easier to spot and gett called on.

There are still buildings up there? You must have been there recently I take it. I wouldn't go near there, I'd just want a couple pics of the strip and get out. Thanks for the warning though.

I helped rebuild detroits timing tower in 89 or 90 I miss the dirty d

detroit also had its own derby hill at mound and outer drive built by chevrolet
It was destroyed by coleman young

they put the horse racing track near 275 and eureka south of metro airport it would have been a perfect place for a dragstrip

Whats left of the track is not much to get excited about. last time I was there I saw 3 torn up buildings and the wood outline of a board they must have used to advertise races and a pole with a speaker still attached. Just knowing your on the land of a former nationally known dragstip is cool. I wish it would reopen but people these days are such pussies and hate any kind of noise. They appose the thought of a dragstrip because they moved out there to get away from all the nose of the city.
