small shop/garage ideas?

OK, I gotta ask. I can see hanging it to pick up floor space... but couldn't you just put it on the floor and build a shelf over it?

Many reasons, One was so that I can get my truck in the garage. It's an extended cab 8ft bed and needed the whole 22ft. Also to pick up floor space. Now it is completely out of my way. And it's quieter. I had it on the floor originally and it always seemed to be in the way.

I have a 18x22 garage (inside dims), and it's the garage that was built in front of the old garage. The old/original garage (25x20) was turned into an office space, and then a corner chunk (10x7 ish) was made into a mudroom. I turned the old garage back into a shop space, and ran 100A sub panel out there, and house my tools and most of my equipment. Before you start moving stuff around though, make a layout and test arrange everything. I have all my stuff laid out in CAD. You can do this with Google sketcher or other free programs, and some of that stuff is pretty user friendly and easy to get up and running. Here's my current layout, it's mostly up to date, but it doesn't show all the crap I have laying around :D..

Looks like a hell of a setup.

I use CATIA at work... I might start doing something like that.
It's getting there, it really helps with basic setup. It only took a few hours to build the basic layout, then create blocks of all the equipment. I can now shuffle it all around in CAD before moving anything around.

Next up is to get everything not shop related out of the front garage. To do that, I'm working on a couple shipping container sheds.

Used some more of the fast-tracks to put in wall hangers to put all my misc material on. Under the black strip on the wall I'm going to build a folding welding table once I get done messing with all the other bull crap.

Its just about done.. need to find a home for the clutter crap I'm not sure i want to keep then it'll be usable again.

your garage is set up just like mine with the (what Im assuming to be ) chimney set into the garage. The paint and drywall make it look way bigger tho.

Yup the block kick out is for a second flu that goes to the basement fireplace which was a "add on" to the house.. Its not on the prints and I have the originals. I tried to make the best use of the areas in front of and behind it, ended up making my own shelf for the front part as i could find on that fit the whole right and didn't stick out to far. Its all 1/2" sch40 pipe and then I welded some angle iron across it for shelve braces and bought some cheap patch table top boards. Turned out pretty nice and if I stained/poly the shelves would actually look like a decent retro piece. lol

Air compressor and the oxy/aced bottles fit well just under the sub panel and the weld tucks right in front of them on the cart. Tried to keep everything off the back wall as the garage is only 23 wide by 22 deep. makes a tight fit to work on stuff it there is anything protruding off the walls.

The larger tubes will have a slot for the pump handle of the grease gun to slide in. There will be a spot for an empty quart container to catch drips/residue. And the other side will hold funnels or can be used to empty oil filters

Mike Finnegan (yes that hotrod Finnegan) had a good youtube channel called "Finnegan's garage" lots of garage hacks in them...

Garage journal is pretty sweet, but also depressing. I keep my garage as clean and organized as I can, but there's never enough room.
