And is it decent, and if you don't mind sharing, approximately how much does it cost?

Anyone ever hear of "Alliance for Affordable Services" ?

My mom works for BCBS and she'll even tell you that if you have to pay for it out of pocket there are many better choices out there.

What about the Health Giant. Mike K? I hear it advertised on WRIF all the time.

Ask your mom which one is the best... I don't care about cost as long as it's under 1k...

If you are self employed to get good insurance you need to be a member of an association (Camber of Commerce, Small business asso, ect). Otherwise you pay more and sometimes can only get limited stuff that doesn't cover doctor visits and preventive stuff. Do you have kids or family?

The "Alliance for Affordable Services" plan for our family (Ages 37,29,4,2) seemed to be a really good deal. Basically $355/mo with a $3k max deductable for hospitalization, and coverage for typical doctors visits. I'm just a little skeptical of the "max" deductable, and I want to make sure there aren't specific limits on certain procedures which are out of line with what they really cost. Kinda scared to trust any of these guys after doing some web searches.

Also, if the payment is going to be low (250-355/mo), I don't mind a high deductable. It won't even bother me to pay for doctors visits, etc out of pocket. I just want to be absolutely covered for sure in the event of anything bad happening to anyone in my family healthwise.

Also if you plan on having more kids be very careful alot of them won't cover pregnacy for certian periods of time when you first get it. You can't buy directly from BCBS if you want normal coverage.

I got snipped last year, so I'm not concerned about that, but you're right, that's one thing all of these guys are saying.

You really get what you pay for. Avoid managed care at all costs.

I pay ~$1000/mo for BCBS.

If you think you're going to get the same care out of providers with shitty insurance as those with better insurance you need a reality check.

But what is your deductable? I've looked at the bills for the past couple years, and even if I paid it all out of pocket (except the hospital stay) and paid less per month, I would still be saving money over spending $1k per month. If $1k per month is what it takes, that is what I will pay, but I'm not willing to just spend that money without running the calculator first. As far as the same care, I'm using the same doctors regardless of who or how they are being paid, so I don't think a reality check is necessary :)

I don't know what you do for a living but are there any trades associations that you are part of the offer group policies?

Self employeed and uninsured FTL
Too damn expensive right now, maybe once I get everything up and running I can get it.

Sounds good, I'd see about a higher monthly payment perhaps closer to $500 to bring the deductable down to $1k or so. With the little ones you know your going to use the insurance, so its not like your paying money out in vein.

I wasn't aware you self employed Raj.
