Samsung Galaxy S4

Stalker

I removed my teeth on purpose....if you catch my d

Rumors are rumors and till the device is officially announced I'm not overly holding my breath. In order for Samsung to overcome the S3 and impress me enough to go buy one, they would have to really step up. Not like other companies which have given up on innovation and focused on litigation. So here's the current rumor list.

1. Quad Core. The international version of the s3 had quad core while the US variant was dual core. This had to do with the LTE chip and processor in the US not being compatible with regulations etc... I think this has a high probability of happening, but it's really just a benchmark stat. Apps still aren't programmed for multi core usage so it makes the phone faster than an older phone, but you don't really enjoy anything other than that.

2. Unbreakable screen. Lots of rumors out there about this. Some say it's a flexible screen that has a bend, don't break setup. Others go to an extreme and say it's possible it'll be a flip phone that is full screen. I highly doubt this. I'm more inclined to believe the bend don't break setup, but no matter what, if this turns out to be true, it'll be a huge advancement for cell phones as an industry.

3. OS will be Key Lime Pie. I doubt this. If the S4 is truly announced in January, it would have to wait till q3 or q4 to release the S4 with the newest, greatest, OS from Google. That's a long time to wait after an announcement and I'm not overly sure how they can even demo 5.0 if Google hasn't even announced it's goodies yet. So if this is truly the S4, it'll be running Jelly Bean and customers will have to wait for their carriers to get off their ass to release 5.0 once it comes out.

That's it so far for the rumors.

Im just sticking with Nexus devices from here on out. Carrier bloat sucks and so do manufacturer interfaces. I know most of that can be addressed via an AOSP ROM, but some of the drivers need to be reverse engineered as the manufacturer doesnt provide the source code for them. Once the Nexus 4 isnt on backorder, Ill be replacing my Evo 4G in short notice :)

I like that idea as well, but quite a few of the features in TouchWiz I like a lot.

Touchwiz isnt that bad, way better than Sense or Moto Blur. Atleast Touchwiz doesnt detract too much from AOSP, whereas Sense and Moto Blur try to reinvent the wheel.

I have the HTC one x+ and it has quad core, if you look at the spec sheet for the s3 and this phone, they are very similar except for processors, I love it....

I switched to CM10 and BlackJelly, both were nice, but I missed touchwiz AND... some of the bloat apps were pretty good. The Samsung calendar app is by far better than anything out there, including google calendar.

My contract is up with Sprint at the end of this month and I'm not sure what I'm going to do. I want the Nexus phone but it doesn't do LTE apparently. Are you with T-Mobile?

I didnt get the Nexus 4 yet, but there are plenty of pay-as-you-go providers out there who use AT&T and T-Mobiles networks. T-Mobiles HSPA+ network is faster than AT&Ts. AT&T limits you to 4Mb while T-Mobile goes the full gamut at 22Mb. Granted, you are put on a tiered data plan (2GB or 5GB) with unlimited talk and text, but Id rather pay the $40 to $60 per month and be free jump ship if the service sucks vs $80+ per month and being locked into a contract. I wouldnt worry too much about LTE. I wouldnt be too concerned about it until silicon or battery technology improve. HSPA+ is plenty fast enough. FWIW, some people using the Nexus 4 on AT&T are able to get LTE. http://www.engadget.com/2012/12/10/nexus-4-lte-select-us-cities/

What?!?!?!? I dont even have the S3 yet!!! I knew this would happen! I should just never upgrade in fear of upgrading to the outdated model.

Same here, no matter what ya do you'll be behind the ball in no time. That said, I do plan on an S3 before the year is up.

I will be interested to see what they do for the S4. My upgrade is next fall so between this and the next Iphone...
DONT USE THE UPGRADE !!! Buy an unlocked phone at full price and go with an unsubsidized plan . The phone that you thought you got for 199 ? NOPE, you paid 600. 199 + $20 for 20 months = 600

I have tmobile and with the unsubsidized plan i pay 128.00 a month for two smart phones ( Galaxy S2 & A Galaxy Nexus) with unlimited text, unlimited calls, and truly unlimited uncapped data ( 20 gb between both phones last month) and a dumb phone.

Nexus is the only way to go. Its cheaped by HUNDREDS of dollars and i am on the latest android (4.2.1) right now. As soon as they announce a new OS , within weeks Google sends me the update. Noon UI and bloatware android FLYS even on a device that is a year behind in chip technology.

Ah the "Data" charge. How is T-Mobile's service now a days?

Tmo is pretty decent these days....a couple friends of mine have them. We were sitting at Kuhnhenns and ran speed tests on our phones...they were both getting close to 20Mb on the HSPA+, and my POS Sprint service was getting me barely 200kb in the same spot. Sprint is by far the worst out of the big carriers, no clue why their service is so slow. Ive had them for 2 years and no matter where I go I cant seem to make it past 300kb.

This. Im getting a Nexus 4 once theyre not on backorder and going with an unsubsidized plan. The pure Google experience is great, much better than proprietary manufacturer UIs and no bloat apps. The Nexus 4 is the best phone out right now, and a bargain at $350. Kinda makes you wonder how Apple, Samsung, and the rest of the manufacturers can get away with charging $500+ outright. I cant wait till I make the switch, Ill be saving $400 to $500 per year on my phone bill.

You can't buy a phone now days because there's always the next best thing coming out in 3 months. I have a Galaxy S3 and it's plenty for me, and most will never use it to its fullest potential, let alone a phone greater. I have actually seen a woman naked before and don't spend 100% of my time geeking out over my phone. Some of you guys take technology way too serious.

Well...bit the bullet and ordered a 16GB Nexus 4, hopefully theyre bullshittin on their 6 to 7 week lead time
