Random Snap Shot Thread

thats an observation ive completely overlooked. i suppose in my case (50D) the quality of the canon might be worth the $260 upcharge. i have totally noticed that with some of my other cheap canon lenses.

i think you're going to get soft edges with either of the lenses. if i were buying again, i'd get the tokina. theres some VERY cool stuff you can do with it at 2.8. find an 11-16 group on flickr, you will see what i mean. but on a cropped body, i dont feel you can completely eliminate the soft edges. if you really wanted to do so, you'd have to go full frame. just my 2 cents, and yes, i do have the sigma. until i can afford the 24-70, ill shoot my sigma the majority of the time. i am shooting a lowly XTI still though. i'd love to have a 5d someday, but it wouldnt be anytime soon. im sure i'll shoot my XTI until the day it dies. i love camera stuff, but its just a hobby. so i wont be spending big money on gear anytime soon. as crappy as my offbrand lenses are compared to L glass, im perfectly content at the moment. the only thing i wish i had was another flash and some triggers. someday..

Ill have to check out the tokina more.

I have the 24-70 and its not wide enough for a lot of indoor stuff, thats where the ultra wide comes in. I still need to get an external flash. I wonder if i should get that instead of another lens right now.....

should i start with the 430ex II or just go right for the 580???

get the 580. make sure it has a PC port. my 430ex does not. if you do get the wide angle, make sure you have a NICE tripod to use. that is the best investment i've made. i think my legs are the manfrotto 190 pro B or something. but i have a manfrotto 488RC0 head. love it, but id get the 488RC2 if i were buying again. the RC0 is too big to hold onto, although ive gotten used to it.

for what I do, im not sure the PC port will be needed. I do like the output of the 580 though. also, when using the 580 in master the pc port is disabled.

Sitting at the airport, heading to DC to shoot a wedding. That's the "wedding bag". 135L F2, 16-35L 2.8, 24-70L 2.8, 70-200L 2.8 IS, 430 EX II, 580 EX II, 6x 4 GB cards, cleaning gear, R-strap and stroboframe. I have a pelican case checked with 2 lighting stands, umbrellas, a monolight and the 50d backup body.

Weeee!

OK ive decided on the 580ex II. I think ill grab that before The UWA lens. When i do get a UWA I think ill get the canon. I was doing a bunch of research last night and all signs say "go canon"

wifey just reminded me that my "birthday is coming up too" so shed be willing to help on something if thats what i wanted.

hmm, now the choices are:

580ex II
canon 10-22
tripod thats much better than my current (Slik)

Ill likely be able to get 2 of the three... any suggestions (tripods too)?

and Brandon, thats just sick! good job

Id suggest Lens/Flash setup....

If you didnt already have a tripod, id suggest maybe flash/tripod...

But you already have one, so go with what you dont already have! You can just wait a tad longer and upgrade the tripod a little later down the road!

thanks! I think thats what im going to do.

anyone know a local business that will price match BH??? I dont want to wait until passover is done for BH to reopen.....!!!

call up that place in ponticrack. camera mart i think its called. right at M59 and telgraph. its in the strip mall on the south east side. they're prices are pretty standard for a store. they might price match though.

ill call them, although they arent local...

ritz and best buy are complete jokes. they are more than $100 over BH PLUS taxes... and neither would price match.

i take it you're not in west bloomfield then. :D

just wait. you wont get the same price in any stores around.

Just did a few quick edits from the wedding tonight in DC. I'll post more later...

The lighting set up was fun. I used 3 580's and a 430 set up on pocketwizards mounted in the tent. I metered the whole thing and got it evenly lit.
