well im kinda pissed, GTR just showed up on the trailer back from california and the car above it dripped some brake cleaner on the new paint. it didnt remove the paint or anything, but it almost looks like when bird shit eats into the paint. like a wetmark that absorbed the fluid slightly. i washed it off immediately with soap and water, but will wetsanding and repolishing hopefully fix this?

Hard to say without seeing it, but it should clean up. I'd pm Marc @ autolavish. And I'm sure you did, but take some good pics and make the shipper pay to have it fixed.

Talk to Marc @ AutoLavish -- he said GTR paint is...different... They used a really soft clearcoat on them IIRC.

brake fluid is 100% different than brake cleaner.

If it was brake fluid, expect to have the panel that was effected completely stripped and repainted at the very least.

Oh wow. I was thinking an area the size of a bird dropping, not a whole panel. That looks bad. I'd definitely get with Marc.

What a huge disappointment :(. Hopefully the shipper pays for it and the paint matches perfectly.

That looks pretty severe, it could be sanded and polished depending on how bad the etch is but GTR's are wet sanded and buffed to nearly a glass finish from the factory and there is probably only 1.7-2.2 mils of clear left on the car. I would suggest a 1000 grit prep and reclear, that would be your best bet

Its an aftermarket paint job anyway. It literally was repainted last week. its actually a lexus color. It actually looks like the paint thats affected is higher than the unaffected paint, like it absorbed it and swelled up a bit. im waiting to hear back from the shipping company before i try to wetsand it, but hopefully I can level it that way

Oh yeah if the paint is that fresh it doesn't stand a chance, it takes nearly 4500 hours for fresh clear coat to post cure thoroughly and be capable of chemical resistance

Wow, there's more affected that I was expecting in that video. I haven't had to work on brake fluid issues yet, but obviously this isn't the best of situations. Reading that you're saying it feels raised is a bad sign and I fear that Smooth might be spot on saying it's screwed.

The truly hard part in all of this is what we can't tell: how deep the etching goes. However deep it goes is how much material you'd need to remove with wet-sanding & polishing to remove the damage. If it goes too deep, then only a respray will help. If it's pretty much just affecting the upper surface of the clear, then you're in luck.
Because it's an aftermarket paint job, it's likely much thicker than an OEM, but it looks like they did quite a bit of sanding and polishing already, so it might be handy to take some paint thickness readings to get an idea of what you're looking at prior to trying anything.

What a bummer man, very sorry to see this thread.
Yeah, im more annoyed than anything else. I bought the car in pieces and had it repainted and put back together. I just wanted it perfect when it got back here. Now i gotta dick around with it again
