Question for the paint/detail guys.

I'm cleaning up the paint on my 73 Chrysler wagon, it's original, acrylic enamel. Not lacquer. Anyways, I'm using a 3m white waffle pad & perfect-it EX rubbing compound. It loads the pad up almost instantly. I've never really messed with old single stage paint, only new urethane stuff & base/clear. Should I use some kind of lubricant? The paint cleans up excellent, but the pad constantly loading up is a huge PITA. I'm pretty sure it's because the paint is oxidized. It's metallic. Thanks

That oxidation will take a ton of work to clean. Im not sure there's a better way. I'll talk to another member (paint and body guy) on here tomorrow and ask.

Cool thanks. I'm not trying to do a full paint correction, just make it shiny again. Here's a teaser of the roof

Do a google search for Mike Phillips single stage paint. He has written a few articles on this issue, he is the man.

The roof looks bad ass! What color is the rest of the car?

damn I didnt buy that car because it had fuel delivery issues ...

I wanna turn you loose on my mercury

I didn't even have to drop the tank. Pulled the sender out & ditched the sock. And I had to solder up a hole in the float.
You did good on the Mercury, this pig still needs a lot of work. Gotta fix the AC (soon) u-joints, valve cover gaskets, the rear power window is slow as hell, I lubed the motor & regulator, but the motor is just old. And I can't get a reman one, it's different than a door window motor. I'm gonna put it on a relay & see if that helps.

What products did you wind up using?

I wound up using 3M perfect-it polish and a really worn out 3M white waffle foam pad that's normally used for compounding. Worked great, I only had to clean the pad once.
