Question for the cops and lawyers here...

So you like to take it in the ass ? I dont.
He wrote a bad ticket. It may be zero points , but its still on your record. Insurance companys can see it and so can cops and judges.

Well most tickets are bad. Come on, who stops at stop signs? If a cop wanted, they could sit on every side street and pop every person who doesn't completely stop. Most people slow down to 1 or so MPH, look, and proceed. They can ticket you for that, and I agree, it's bogus. But like cert said, you broke the law and I agree with you, it's a BS ticket but hey you got caught. I know the turnaround you're talking about and as I said I have always signaled there. There are a lot of people that do not signal when there is no traffic and as dumb as it is, they can be ticketed. Not saying I agree, but it is the law.

It sounds to me like you are new to the court system. I have had enough tickets and dealt with court enough to know how they operate which is why I stay out of trouble and if I'm turning or switching lanes, my signal is on even if I have to hold the turn signal lever down to keep that light on the back of my car blinking. Deal with a few more tickets and you'll probably drive like me. Slow and steady and using that turn signal. I even make complete stops at signs. And yes, I do 55-60 on 94 and 75 in the 55 mph zone even when everybody else is doing 80. I stay in the right lane.

Not saying I agree with cops. They're jackasses for the most part and I can't stand them and the fact that they can extort me at their will, as last time I was pulled over it was on a side street 3 blocks from home, and he flipped a U turn to get me (more dangerous than anything I did) and said he stopped me because he thought I had a seatbelt, which was a lie. I Had my hat on funny and I am sure that's why he flipped around because he was grilling me about where I was coming from, where I was going. Then at the end "Oh, uhh the reason I stopped you is cause it looked like you didn't have a seatbelt on." Sure, pig, save it.

More power to you if you get it dismissed. Taking a video of a bunch of other people breaking the same law isn't going to help your case so don't was the time.

I did that, and had about 50-60 license plate numbers of other cars who did the same as what I did all written out there to give....Didn't even get the chance to do so, they just say pay and be done, you don't really get the chance to say anything in most courts. It is pretty outrageous if you ask me, if THE MAN wants to give you a hard time, they will, nothing you can really do about it...Its not right, but they're above the law so...???

Brian, you will lose in front of a judge if you can't prove your innocence. You need to know exactly what the law is because you will not be given a fair shake. It's kangaroo court. If you feel you have a case, when the find you guilty (and they will), go to the cashier's window and advise that you want to appeal the verdict. You'll have another court date at the county circuit court. You will have a fair hearing. But again, you need to know the signal law and defend your actions. Saying that everyone else does it isn't justification. I did this with Grosse Point Shores and went to Wayne County CC and WON. It cost at the time $6 for the appeal and that was all I paid.

Raro.... ive been driving for 22 years. Been in the courts a couple of times ;) . I didnt break the law, thats the issue . Ill explain it again: I went from a right hand turn directly into the turn around lane. I had my right hand signal on. He says i should have entered the right most lane and signaled left and made two lane changes to enter the turn around lane. There is NO law that says when turning on to a two lane road you must enter a certain lane.

jury trial ask for one the prosecuetor wll settle fast

Thats what i plan on. They will spend more than the 155 they can charge me on the " kangaroo court "

Still should of signaled the left turn. Doesn't matter if 100's of other people do it that doesn't make it right or acceptable. 1000's of people get mugged a year guess that makes it cool for me to do it. I even use my turn signal when I turn into my driveway. The right turn only is a good example you still have to signal on them.
In that little map there is plenty of area to turn on your left turn signal.

So you propose that i hit my left turn signal before im done with my right turn ?

Sorry, I got the impression you never dealt with court when you seemed surprised at how they treat people. Every court I've been to is like that. Get there on time, wait hours, talk to somebody for 10 seconds, then have to come back.

I know exactly where you're talking about because I frequent Ashoka's and I take Michigan Ave to get there and to get home.

I thought that you made a right turn off of Haggerty and went into the far left lane, then did not signal left to get into and in the turn around.

You're saying the cop told you that you can not go into the far left lane, but you have to enter the far right lane, then signal left and change lanes to get into the turning lane?

doesn't the law state that you must turn into the first legal lane? that's what i was taught in drivers ed but i could be wrong. i think you should have made your turn into the far right lane, then signaled to get over into the left lane.

i'd still fight it though, worst case your back where you started paying a fine and getting points.

Serious question... while you were in the turnaround/MI left lane and you got up to the light... were you in the inside lane? Or outside lane? The marking on the road there indicate that you can ONLY turn left from the inside lane. You cannot proceded straight across. I would say that as you were in a lane of traffic that ONLY allowed you to complete your left turn, it was unnecessary to signal.

i don't think the law is that you only have to signal if it's not obvious to other drivers, you have to remember there are women driving, nothing is obvious.

Fuck the Plymouth/Canton/whatever else city court. I went in for running a red light and supposedly the cop already dropped it to something else (I didnt know this), but it still had points. I went in front of the magistrate to try and get the points taken off and he wouldnt do it cause it was already dropped down.

Fuck traffic cops in general!

Brian, I would push based on principal. As a former truck driver, I feel that your correct. As you did not fully complete the right turn until you were in the left only turn lane. It sounds as if that transition is where the officer wrote you the ticket. Once in that lane, it is left only and would not require the use of your blinker.

As a side note, it can be kicked out of court completely, as a warning for faulty equipement. (Blown turning bulb)

Its not always possible to turn into the inside lane. You can sit there all day then get a blocking traffic ticket waiting for the inside lane to open. lol

Judging by that map drawing there is plenty of room to turn on your left turn signal unless you turned really shallow and cut across all the lanes... Either way you could of stayed in that far lane for a split second after the turn hit your blinker changed into the turn lane and properly signaled your actions. Either way your going to end up paying something either from missing work or the ticket. I also use my blinker in turning lanes its not that hard to use the thing. Tickets for this kind of stuff is stupid I don't ever give them a reason to give me one.

This is a pick your battles thing. The law clearly states that you have to turn into the nearest available lane. The cop says you shold ahve turned into the first lane then signalled to the left. He is legally correct. You are not going to win this one.

It sucks, but I would focus on getting the points removed and be happy with just a fine. If it is like Warren, it won't even hit your record. They just want the coinage.

The judge is not going to like just because all these people did, I should be able to theory IMO.

:flip: right...we women are a bunch of idiots!

Thats not my approach.... my defense is that the law is actually so vague that the publics mindset is to do what i did. There are no laws against it or signs to say not to do it. I was actually taught that you enter a michigan left as soon as safely possible in drivers ed !!

I learned in driver's ed when I was 15 that you had to turn into the nearest available lane. I can't tell you where it is in the law, but it is what they taught me.

It is a gamble to fight this. You can try going to a judge, but it might turn out worse if he adds on court costs, or, you cold get lucky, and he dismisses it. Not a battle I would pick, but to each his own.
