Question for the cops and lawyers here...

Very nice Canton cop just gave me a ticket for improper turn signal.
I was going south bound on haggerty @ michigan avenue. I needed to turn left on michigan so i turned west bound on michigan and IMMEDIATLY entered the michigan left. (Like the other 1000 times i have came to a michigan left.)

In the turn around/ michigan left i didnt use my signal. ( In 21 years ive never used my turn signal at a michigan left. What other direction are you going to go ?)

He said i a: didnt use my left turn signal to enter the michigan left lane and that i b: didnt use my turn signal in the turn around.

As you can see in this google photo, the mighigan left starts very soon after the intersection. It would be hard to force my turn signal left while im still making a right turn. http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&sou...367,-83.446478&spn=0.001586,0.003484&t=h&z=19

I cant find any hard laws on this... can anyone help ? Any cops or laywers have a good answer ?

go to court, take picture of that map with you. you'll be fine.. send me a pm with the officers name also when u get a second.

when i was 16 redford got me for not signaling pulling out of dunkin donuts onto telegraph.. ever since then i signal for everything lol

like that? If so, that cop was not using his head.

I got a ticket in howell once for improper gear shifting, my car had a badass shift kit. I fought it and one. Some cops just have nothing better to do.

I have a cost savings suggestion for that city. If their cops have nothing better to do then they should give the taxpayers some money back and get rid of people writing tickets like that.

That is nothing but a revenue ticket. Not only would I fight that at the local level, but if the kangaroo court convicts you, I'd appeal the 'conviction' to county Circuit Court. As a moving violation, that adds points to your record.

That's a ridiculous ticket. I like it because its a safe city, but then this is what you get when officers have nothing better to do.

That officer is a hero and a saint. The city is safer with him on the roads protecting us from dangerous criminals like you.

but, you used a turn signal, you're one out of say 25,000 who use it, even if it was on in the wrong direction or you had it on just for the hell of it...That should be sufficient, I rarely see a turn signal anywhere....As mentioned, I got a ticket long ago for not using a signal, since then, I always use it even when turning into my driveway....Ridiculous

He probably detected an odor of douche coming from your car and used the turn signal as his legitimate reason to stop you. Once he confirmed that you exceeded the legal level of douche-baggery, I bet he decided to issue the turn signal ticket as a fair compromise. Just kidding.. good luck on yer ticket and stuff.

Bhahahhahahahhahahahhahahhalolololololololololololololol

I am one of the few people that religiously use my turn signal 99% of the time, even if most people don't. Nothing gets on my nerves more than someone slowing down a block before their turn, you're behind them and they decide they're turning without a signal. If people would signal their intentions it gives the rest of us an out to decide where we're going to go should we need to avoid a sudden stop.

^+1 lol I use mine turning into my driveway in my sub. But ive be told I drive like an old lady.

Fight the ticket most of the time they dont even bother showing up for something like that.

Serious question... while you were in the turnaround/MI left lane and you got up to the light... were you in the inside lane? Or outside lane? The marking on the road there indicate that you can ONLY turn left from the inside lane. You cannot proceded straight across. I would say that as you were in a lane of traffic that ONLY allowed you to complete your left turn, it was unnecessary to signal.
