Project Street Strip LS1 Camaro Z28

Well after years of regretting selling my NBM Cam Only Camaro Z28 build, I decided it's time to pick up another F body. This one won't be as bad as the NBM car was, but my goal is to put something together fairly cheap to go out and run some mid 11s in and have fun with, for a reasonable amount of cash.

My Gf has shown a lot of interest in cars since she's started dating me a few years ago and has asked to drive my Cobra a few times. She's decent with the T56 but is more comfortable with an auto car. I'm going to start things off slow with this car and get her used to making passes down the track in it before I put together a real motor for it.

The car is a 1998 Camaro Z28. I picked it up a few weeks ago and it's 100% stock 1 owner car. Pretty clean inside and out, which is what I wanted. The plan is to do some bolt ons over the winter and hit the track in the spring. I've already received some parts, others I'm still waiting on.

Pacesetter Ceramic Coated LT Headers (Have)
TSP 3" ORY Pipe (Have)
Dynomax 3" Bullet Off Y Pipe (Have)
Fast 102/102 setup
SLP Flowpac Ram Air kit
NX System (Not Sure which kit yet?)
Yank SS4000 Converter (Ordered From Texas-Speed)
Derale Deep Finned 4l60e Trans Pan (Have)
Flexalite 10x20 -6AN Transmission Fluid Cooler (Have)
-6 Pushlock AN feed and return hoses with black Fragola fittings (Have)
BMR tubular 4l60e crossmemeber with TA relocation mount
Motive 3.73 Gear
Weld Weldstar RT Wheels 15x10/15x4 with MT Drag Radials (Have)

I also plan to improve the plain Z28 look a little bit as well. Exterior mods include:

New OEM Headlights to replace faded foggy stock ones
SLP Bowtie Grill
VFN Sunoco Hood
SS Spoiler

Here's some pictures of the car as I got it.

Couldn't resist throwing the new wheel/tire setup on the car already. Though I decided to switch the fronts out for 17x4 Alumastars like I had on my NBM car.

First step was to remove this garbage:

To replace it with this:

And a box arrived from Summit today. Converter they said will be another couple weeks, so as soon as I get that I can get the ball rolling.

New fronts are here. Pay no attention to these disgusting stock brakes. New drilled/slotted rotors and new calipars on the way.

With a 408 stroker I would've had a custom converter built from someone, specific to that engine, but that's just me. This really is just a stock motor with bolt ons. I'm planning for down the road a bit with a big motor, but it will work great with the stock motor as well.

On another note, the trans came out yesterday. Just waiting on this converter to show up and it will be time to install all of this garbage.

I can't believe how much that stock converter weighs, that thing must be 75lbs!!

Gotcha

Awesome car. I think the first set of wheels looked nicer. Just my opinion(worth less than a penny!) I do enjoy your builds. They always start with wheel upgrades!

Lol Fred said something about that last night. He's like "well the engine is only two bolts and a couple electrical plugs away from coming out, you sure you don't want to cam it while it's this far apart? Really has me thinking hahah.

he's right, it would def be worth it to cam it now while you have it this far. its just smart.

i recommend martin at tick perf. give him a call hes awesome with valvetrain and camshaft stuff. he can spec you a reeaall nice cam for that thing. ms4 is boring. sorry trigger.
