Potholes

So it's not just me that thinks that the roads are particularly bad this year? Granted this is only my 5th winter driving Michigan roads, but still, I never remembered the roads being remotely close to how bad they are this year. I picked the wrong year to start DD'ing a lowered car lol

I love how it always involves "heavy loads" on trucks as one of the root causes of how abysmal our roads are. There's one street in my neighborhood that rivals Greenfield with it's potholes. Honest to god these things are all of a foot and a half wide and at least 9 inches deep. I have yet to see one "heavy truck" drive through the sub.

maybe I should start a business selling DUB rims and ridiculously small side walled tires.

The escalades in the hood must be going through rims weekly.

So if the state allows for these heavy loads, shouldn't they be designed to hold those loads for the 20 year life? 8 Mile and Farmington was redone just a few years ago and is the worst spot that I've encountered this winter.

I can't speak to private roads I was only referring to MDOT roads. My guess for a subdivision is just poor construction/maintenance.

If you think I was just trying to throw out "heavy loads" as an excuse, do some research on ESAL's, they are the basis for all pavement designs.

Scooter..........it comes down to $$$. The more money you have the better quality you get. Michigan missed out on a TON of government match money in the past few years, which put a lot of road projects out of sight.

Sounds like a bunch of southerners bitching about snow. You know they are coming, so why complain? At least that's the mentality that I heard about snow in the south.

This is one of the only things that Ohio is better than Michigan at. 100 feet into Ohio and your teeth stop chattering.

Two things. 1, the roadwork is done on the cheap. It creates jobs in MI. They fall apart and the road crews are hard at work. Job security. (why it takes one guy working and 4 watching and drinking coffee i don't have a clue).
and 2, the plows just pull the stuff up and create more problems.
If people would learn how to slow the fuck down and adjust their driving habits to the road conditions we wouldn't need as many plows making passes. But again, our government and road commissions have to protect people from their stupid selves.

The potholes this season are like no other. The worst I have ever seen in my life, by a long shot. They are to be expected every winter, but shit is seriously out of hand this year.

It's because of how cold it has been.
