Personal Protection

In light of Standy's thread (http://motownmuscle.com/forums/showthread.php?t=116318) and the fact that I spend a lot of time in that particular area, and the girlfriend lives in that area, I need to pick up something for my and her personal protection.

Does anyone have any good suggestions as to what to get and what to avoid? Please note, that I do not have a CPL (it's on my list of things to get when I have some spare money) so a fire arm is out of the question. I would also like it to be legal to own lol.
 
In my business (repossessions) i carry pepper spray. I've never once had to use it but its' stopped quite a few people dead in their tracks just having it out in the open.
 
Me and the girlfriend carry Mag-lights. I have a 5cell and she has a 4.

Spend $200 for the CPL, $250 for a revolver, $25 for some personal protection ammo, and $25 for a membership with the NRA. They will help you with a lawyer in the event of a self defense shooting.

It's your life you're protecting. It's worth the money.

I really wish I had the money, cause I'd go do it this weekend, but alas, I don't. When I do get the money, I'll be sure to PM you.

I'm with Justin, on the CPL, and even though you don't have the money you don't have to take the class and buy the gun all at once. Space it out. It takes 2-3 months to get a CPL now. So....

A) Take the class...$130 to sign up, then another $105 at the Sheriff's Dept and wait to get it.

or...

B) Buy the gun...Go to local PD, get the paper work, 10 days to buy. Spend anywhere from $250 to sky's the limit on a hand gun. Even though you cannot legally carry, you can have home protection at your home.

Do one at a time, spread the cash out. You don't have to own at gun to take the class. You can rent one and pass.

Yeah I had guns before my CPL. Best way to do it on a budget. Plus the county Ben is in (Washtenaw IIRC) has a quick turn around time once he does apply for the CPL.
 
Ben we have pepper spray for key rings in stock at the phone store. We have had a bunch of members purchase it for the "old lady". If you want I can bring some to the dealership or you can swing by the store 10-8.

Yeah, I bought mine about 1 month before I took my CPL class. It's nice to have at home. My dog hears everything outside and goes CRAZY when someone knocks at the door or even hears something, but if there is a problem inside....there will be a .40 cal pointing at someone.

And if his turnaround time is less than 2-3 months....even better!!:thumbsup: When my Dad got his a LONG time ago, it wasn't even a CPL or CCW. It was a "home and business" permit. It was like one day.

The only time I am not carrying my pistol is when I am going to a bar or somewhere else that I can not legally carry.
