I was wondering what was a good parrot to have, i would prefer to have a smart one lol, and how hard and expensive are they to take care of ??? i dont know much about them so any help is greatly apprecaited, thanks :)

I knew a kid in high school whos family had two dogs and a parrot - and the bird was smart as HELL...

Anyways, the bird knew the dogs and their names and would yell at them... lmfao.. You'd just hear the bird yell, "Marvin....no!" LOL...

Be prepared, if you get one that can speak, to be careful what you say around it... lol

Any larger parrot will be smart. Macaws, African Grays, etc. African Grays are probably the smartest out of all of them. Parrots can live a very long time, and truth be told, it may outlive you. Considering they live for ~75 years, youre going to want to find somebody to adpot it if something were to happen to you. Consider adopting one from a bird sanctuary. There are plenty around, and usually the birds will have a well documented history, and be very used to human interaction.

lmao !!! ok will do, i have a sailors mouth so i can just see it now someone walking threw the door and it yelling hey whats up asshole !!! lol :)

Usually, for a Macaw, youre looking at $700 to $1000, and an African Gray, $1000 to $1200.

parrots are one of the highest maintenance pets out there. If they don't get what they need they start to go insane, pulling out their own feathers, etc. They also can be very loud and shit every 20min or so. I've always wanted one but after researching them I've found they are not for me at this time. Probably the best lowest maintenance parrot is a green cheek conure, they arent too expensive and are a very small bird, but are very smart. People call them a big bird in small body

Parrots can be a very good pet or a pain in the ass...we had a cacactoo and it was mean as hell to some people but liked others. Like darko said they are high maintneice

the green cheek conure sounds about what i am looking for, something smaller and smart and doesnt shit like a teradacktyl lol !!!

Whatever you do, stay away from Quaker Parrots, them things can be very aggressive. Every one Ive worked with bit me good. Also, dont rule out Mynah birds. Theyre very smart as well. Most peopel think theyre related to crows, but theyre more like starlings. My dad had a few of them, and they had a bigger vocabulary than him .

LOL !! will do, i dont want a aggresive bird all i need is for it to try and attack my pit and that would be a big waste of money lol !!!

Ive had multiple Parrots ( a few ducks too)
#1 thing you need is patience. They will test you.
I would not recommend a McCaw for a first bird. They can live in captivity up to 50+ years (in the wild over 100 years), and they are VERY loud and can be obnoxious. Trust me, I know.
If your looking for a bird that can talk, African grays are the best talkers, but once again, not a good first bird.
If your really into keeping care of a bird 20+ years, I would suggest a conure. (5-600 range)
Matainence is not too bad, but weekly cleaing cleaning is needed, and the bird must have fresh food & water every day.
The sell pellets with the proper diet for all birds. 20-25 bucks a month for a bag + treats.
Love birds are pretty low matainence (you need to buy 2). But they do not talk. Mine lived some 15 yrs.
Cages are expensive for middle sized birds-400-1000. Get one that has a tray around the out side that catches seed/food.
Lots of birds on like that people cannot care for anymore. (craigslist) Im warning you, dont think keeping a McCaw is easy. Its not.

ok thanks, i would really like to have one that talks, i have wanted one since i was a little kid !! but i will just have to save up my money and do alot of research and thanks again for everyones help :)

My step-mom had a bunch of birds. She had an African Grey that pulled all it's feathers out. She also had a Cockatoo that did the most god-awful screeching. Right at sunset, it would go off like an air-raid siren. You couldn't even be in the same room with it for like 30 minutes. It seems like the smaller the bird, the better behaved they are.

Our best birds where a yellow naped Amazon and a Blue front Amazon. We also had a McCaw and a African Grey, both were very loud. You could practically have a conversation with the amazons, they had a huge vocabulary.

just don't get a cockatoo.... there's about to be a dead one next door to me. they ignore it and leave it outside and the damm thing screams randomly all day long.

We had a couple large birds when i was a kid. Our Cockatoo Sonny that was mean as hell. It was an adventure just trying to give it food. Like Jeff said it was LOUD as hell, and also did the air siren thing.

We had a small parrot (red headed lored) (Reiko) that was generally friendly, although it was best buddies with my dad and would bite the shit out of you if you got too close to my dad. I guess he was a watch parrot.

And yes, our parrots were named after Sonny and Reiko from Miami Vice. The 80's were awesome
