So I have a 1991 Chevrolet Caprice and I know I need both my Outer Tie Rods Done on the front end. However, I did not know it would cost 300 for outer tie rods and a front end alignment. Is this a pretty good or average price? I havent replaced tie rods in a couple years and I just wanted to know before I got them done. Any help would be nice.

This quote was giving to me at an auto mechanics shop for parts and labor.

dont know how much your tie rods cost. mine were like $70-$80 a piece. and a good front end alignment i would imagine like $25-$45. dont know if that helps or not.

$300 is very expensive to me. I charge $84 an hour labor, which both tie rod ends I would only charge one hour. Plus the tie rod ends at only $25 a piece fo the greaseable ones and the shop I take my alignments to only charges $59.95.

Hope thhis helps . . . any problems let me know. I am located in Canton, if you live around here we can work something out.

it depends on the parts being used autozone, murrys, advanced, all use the same stuff about $25-$40 GPC,NAPA, or the dealership better parts but $50-$100

Tie rods? $10 bucks each here... Lifetime warranty... :icon_bigg

Or if you want Moog... $18 each here... :icon_bigg

Moog is started to be made in China now... :(

OMG...no effing way!!! :rocketwho Come to think of it, Federal Mogal (sp) just laid off a bunch of people recently. No wonder...

That sucks. I used those on my yellow notch and they were tight as could be. The China ones I looked at I could move with two fingers, and the MOOG I could barely move with using full force on my hand. Car rode awesome!

I can get you out tie rods for $43 a each at my discount! Dont know how much alignments are thou, I cant control those prices....

Dana Spicer Front end Chassis. $300 for tie rods isn't excessively high if they use Spicer/Dana parts.

This. $300 isn't crazy high for a shop. Obviously you can always get parts cheaper elsewhere, but at a shop you get all of their warranties and guarantees. And something easier like outer tie rods you could probably do yourself and just bring it to us for your alignment. I can help with that no problem.

Did they qoute you to replace the innners and outers ?

Napa Economy Line " Made overseas" $28.78 per tie rod inner or outer
Napa Lifetime Warranty "made in USA"44.68 per tie rod inner and outer

Adjusting Sleeves 14.38 Economy line 26.46 For USA made

Also To replace all 4 tie rods Book Time is 1.7 hrs our Labor rate is $79.00 hrly = $134

Front end Alignment if we do the work is Free ,if we don't do the work its $59.99

If you are a paying Motown Muscle Club Memeber get a 15% discount is you are not a paying member it is 10%

total for whole job Replacing only tie rods No Adjusting Sleeves and Performing Alignment with economy parts is

$249
%10 off is $224.08
%15 off is $211.65

Totals for job with USA Made parts all 4 tie rods No Adjusting Sleeves including alignment.

$312.72
10% off $281.45
15% off $$265.81

Both Jobs include only replacing the 4 tie rods and doing the alignment. The odds of succesfully removing the old adjusting sleeves if they are original are slim to none with out serious damage occuring. So add $30 for Import sleeves and $50 for USA made sleeves. I doubt they will come off.

Did they inspect the Idler Arm and the Pitam arm for wear as well ? Those are very commonly worn out components.

Oh Buy a membership. It will save you money.

hahaha...

If you wanna bring it to PoHo,

Complete front end inspection, lube. If only to replace the outer tie rods, no inners, no adjusting sleeves, with a front wheel alignment, (no rear wheel adjustments on a Caprice) I could have you OTD for $180 flat, 1 year warranty on parts/labor.
