The government feels that four major carriers is the right number for competition in the US market.

That works out well. In Canada, there are 3 big carriers, and the customers considerably more than we do here for less.

I've heard. My hope is that we start seeing phone costs go down now that most companies offer unsubsidized prices.

I really thought Sprint would have made bigger strides by now with Softbanks acquisition of them. They are known for big moves in Japan, and they finally have the financial backing they lacked. Maybe in the post-Hesse era, they will, but it's too early to tell.
