I have the utmost respect for our servicemen/women past and present. Though I have never been in the military, I feel we are all fighting the same fight (police/fire and military) just on different levels. I am proud to serve as a police officer and wouldn't change a thing in my past if I could!

I was on the Truman from Feb. 01 to June 04 when I got out. I was mess cranking all of the maiden cruise so I did not get out and about much.

Hey Asrof
you ever wish you where back in????

I seriously laugh sometimes at what people here in the civilan world perceive as "hard" im like the military would eat them up alive! Everyone is for them selves I have noticed really selfish attitude...at my work im always about the goal of the dept. Im not there to get rich if I was it would take me 3 life times to make anything where I work at...

As one of my old shipmates use to say.... "Im not rich, but im not starving!"

Alot of people will never understand exactly what an individual sacrifices when they join the military.... even police, fire fighters ect... until you are in there shoes I guess. We my friend are a different breed!

If I would have stayed in the Navy, I could have been a first class pushing for Chief by now. My divisional chain of command was so shitty and demoralizing that I could not take them anymore. It was like Stalin and the Gulag.

Rodger that.

Obviously, The Gunny (now) was attached to the marine f-18 squadron that was your guest.

I came into boot camp as an E1 and made E5 in less then 3 years, took the E6 exam like 7 times and it was locked up..... 350+ people in my rate and only advancing 6 first classes each cycle....obviously time in rate are the guys getting promoted first almost every time but if I would have stayed in im sure I would be up for cheif already!

I TOTALLY agree! Even some of the newer/younger officers don't have the "teamwork" concept down, then they wonder why the guys with experience/seniority (I have 5 years) don't like them or won't associate with them. You have to trust who you work with, if you don't, you can't be 100% sure that you'll go home to your family every night! Police/fire/military is not the profession you want people turning their backs on you!

Steve,

Sometimes I miss My Navy but,

I'm doing very well down here in N.C. It's good to work here building engines for G.E. Because most of us here at the plant are former military.

We just had a very big Veterans day celebration today. Full color guard, The guest speaker this year was the North Carolina commander for the VFW.

And that pails in comparison to last year

We had 2 tuskgie airmen and a medal of honor recipant speak.

Yes we take our military heritage seriously here at Durham engine facility!!!

Not a vet or serviceman, but I would like to give some family members rep.
1. grandpa: died in 1994 - served as a tank pilot in the pacific for ww2
2. uncle jim: one of the first classes out of west point that was in ww2, has a book about his journey (if anyone is interested, pm me), free'ed more than one concentration camp, secured the "disney castle" in europe, and is still alive. :_slide_:
3. aunt arline: uncle jim's wife, currently alive. was in the first group of women to fly for the US armed forces. :rockwoot: :faint: She also put the wings on my cousin who is now flying fighter jets. :rockwoot: :rockwoot:
