NOS question

what kit do you have and what does the plug look like? the plug tells no lies. you have to check the plug or your just gonna go in circles.

I have a super powershot kit with a cheater plate. I haven't made a pass yet though. I was gonna start out at 7 psi and work from there.

Well, I sprayed my car for the first time on saturday. I found out it was running a tad lean. The corner plugs showed some slight speckling, not much but still. The inside plugs showed no speckling. The ground straps were a tad on the white side (but luckily not burned off). The whole strap all the way down to the rim of the plug was white(ish). Total timing was at 30 degrees. Fuel pressure was set at 6 lbs. I upped the pressure to 7 but have yet to make another pass. Is 7 lbs too big of an increase for the way I have it set up or is that on the right track? I figure if its too rich I can go back down to 6.5 lbs of pressure. I've heard that small increases in fuel pressure can make a big change but I think it was pretty lean at 6 lbs.

Here is a pic of the way I have it set up....(Don't make fun of it LOL!, I'm new to this stuff and am on a tight budget. I know a separate fuel pump for the nitrous would be the right (best) way to do it but I figured this would work for now until i can buy everything for another fuel system.)

Mallory comp 140.

not big enough at all believe me I know had one on my car trying it as a single pump powering both systems it doesn't have the pressure and volume to over come the demand while being challenged with the g-forces of a dead dig on spray. you can do the volume flow test while the car is still and it will be fine but once you add in the fact it has to overcome the g-forces it cannot keep up.:nono::nono::893grenad

Mine has the product engineering 500 pump

not a problem. I have an a2000. I ran a mallory 140 for a while but had to run it with a holley blue for the nitrous. the mallory was just not enough for both motor and spray tried it kept melting plugs and blowing head gaskets went back to the dual fuel system and didn't have a problem again, that was on a 302 with highports. I have a much larger pump and feed line went from -8 to -10 feed and I haven't had a problem yet (knock on wood)

Greentrunk runs the same pump as mine. His seems to work ok? I wanted to see how much gas it could flow so I unhooked the fuel line going into the y-block and put it in a 2 liter pop bottle and turned the pump on. The 2 liter was full rather quickly to say the least. My first test run spraying was lean but not too bad. If it still looks lean after my next test run after the fuel pressure increase, what pump would you suggest running to feed both?? I've heard of people running a holley blue for both with a 150 shot and never having a problem. I've been told that a 150 shot is around the max for the way I have it set up. If I had the money I would have two pumps for sure but I just worked with what I had ya' know. I do appreciate you trying to help. I don't want to sound like I don't believe you or anything. I would just like to make what I have work if possible.

and how many head gaskets has he blown this year. I hope you're not running cometics.

Just add a pump with the 140 and be done with it. Don't take no chances unless you have the money for a new motor.

I think he blew one head gasket during a nitrous run this year. Supernotch90 blew a gasket too and he has a dedicated pump for his nitrous. Yes, I do have cometics on mine. They are the MLS gaskets which are almost $100 bucks a piece. They should be a bit more durable. If I had the money I would have another fuel system for the nitrous but right now I don't unfortunately.

i wouldnt be too worried about it to be honest, you got to put fuel through a .070ish hole. as long as the fuel pressure is constant i think youll be find with that lil of a shot. if you had a fogger or something id say different. but specals on the porcelin does not mean its lean. you have to look down in the porceling to see that. and the timing strap on the plug to see what it needs for timing. specs can be just oil on the plug or even carbon buring up.

when you checked the plug did you shut the motor off at the end of pass and check it, or did you drive it back to the pits then check? were they brand new plugs when you did this?
