ive got my crank in place and done. i will begin droping slugs in this weekend. ive got dished pistons and afr 185 heads. cam is not very large. my question is. should i install one piston and set my head up there and check PTV clearence now or put all 8 slugs in and check it later? i honestly do not see me having an issue because of the small cam, 1.6rr, and dished pistons but i maybe over looking something....the only thing im worryed about is the larger valves hitting.

any help is appreciated.

For peace of mind you could just measure one. IMO if its a smaller cam, and your pistons dont stick out of the bore you will be ok. What size valves do the 185s have? Do you know what the pistons are notched for? I know there are hardcore people that will say you HAVE to do it, but unless its a high lift and duration cam you will be fine. I'm no pro, but I've seen people do worse

I will always check one cyl just for my own satisfaction. Also, because mistakes can happen. I had a multi position timing chain crank gear that I would of swore I put in right. But when I checked valve clearance I instantly realized the problem.

my head gasket will have a compressed thickness of .041, but i dont want to set my gasket on when im just checking ptv so how would i set that up?

u should be fine, but for comfort put 1 in and then check for PTV clerance always safe than sorry and u will need a old gasket as SUPERSTANG90 said need any help let us know

Someone has to have an old one laying around for you to use. I have some .040 MLS ones but they are for a Boss block. I'd say come get em, buy we are about 100 miles apart lol

well when u mesure add .41 thickness to it u can put clay in there and roll motor around then peel clay off and u a caliper there is suppose to be so many thousands to clear

I have old compressed ones. I won't even charge you a bag of cookies as long as you bring them back. Uh.. Nate, give ME the new ones!!

Seriously Pete, come on over. You remember how to get here?

I would have if I had two of them. I only had one

just saw this, and i picked the one up from Red already. ill have to invite you guys over soon since we live so close. its just been so damn cold lately i haven't even been making it out to the shop to push on this thing. i just ordered the pushrod checker last nite from summit(13$, but had to order 100$ worth of stuff to get free shipping...needed things anyway for later though), it should be here this week. im going to push myself today to slide a slug in and get the head snuged down so when it gets here, i can check it out.

ill let you guys know what i see.

Eh... It's all good. As long as you get your stuff set up right.

My barn is has heat and I still haven't been out there much the past couple weeks!
I keep waiting for Red to let me know when he's working on the notch so I can go help.

When you figure out your pushrod length shoot me a message, can get you in contact with a guy at trend to get you a set on the cheap
