Newbie Motorcycle Question.

Okay guys, I REALLLY want to get a bike around the end of this year/next spring. But I've only driven a few full size motorcycles on the road and wanted to see if I am crazy concerning the motorcycle I want.

I have driven many dirt-bikes and quads etc so I know the shifting, clutching, braking. The only Motorcycle I've driven on the road was a 1994 Kawasaki Vulcan-88 (1500cc) and I didn't have any problems handling/driving it around.

I want with a passion a Harley Davidson VRSC (V-Rod) Night Rod. But I know it's no pansy bike at like 130ish HP.

Mainly my question is Should I say Wait and get something smaller like a Sportster 1200 or 883 to really learn on or should i just be cautious on the bigger bike and get what i REALLLY want.

I'm not dumb and Even riding the Kawasaki I was nevous/cautious so I am confident I won't be testing my limits with a 8000-10000 bike.

I just wanted some insight.

Thanks.

get what you want the first time... you will be more happy. rather then wasting money on something u didnt want then trying to sell it and losing money only to later get what u really want.

Thank you, That's along the lines of how I was thinking. I just didn't want to get into a Motorcycle that is over my head.

i understand what your saying.. its all about being smart and using your head.

i got my zx-14 as my first bike.. i took it easy for a STUPID long time till i understood the bike. but i got what i wanted and didnt have to play the small bike then get a big bike game. i got what i wanted and im very happy.

Not a real fan of those. Weird motor.

You should be able to find a Big Dog pretty cheap if you want something low and fast.

If you've rode before, you don't need to bother with an 883. 1200 can be a fun bike.

But these aren't the kind of bikes (the VROD and bikes like Big Dogs) that you want to ride very far on especially on the interstate. So think about that before you buy. They're also not that fast. Sure, they're faster than your grandpas full dresser but any decent car (or even an old 600 sportbike) will be faster.

a vrod can run at best high 11's and mostly low 12's..

my buddy rode a 97 gsxr and went 11.70's with a normal street tire.

883's are good chick bikes......1200's are mildly better....

KTM 950SM, ftw................
