Big thanks to Sean and Greg at C.A.R.S. Automotive in Waterford. Last night went up to the shop and we solved the boost-building problem... Now the car will easily make 15lbs once on the transbrake. I'm looking forward to getting it back to the track.
A couple of thoughts...
1. If you have a mustang and you are thinking about going with a stand-alone computer on your car like FAST, Big Stuff, etc... I want to encourage you to seriously take a look at the AEM box. At first I found the box to be complicated, but the more familiar I become with it, the more I'm liking it.
The car drives like a stocker around town (thanks to Sean's great tune), but it also has so many really cool functions that a number of the other standalones don't have.
For example, the AEM box has two built-in two-steps. What Sean and Greg did last night was put one of the two-steps on the footbrake so that I can build a little boost there, then grab the transbrake and now the boost will easily build up to 15lbs and more. What a great device.
2. The other thing about the AEM box, especially if you have a Foxbody car like mine, is that you can just plug the computer right into your existing wiring harness. You really can't beat this for simplicity. Compared to the rewiring you must do in order to install a FAST box, there is really no comparison, especially with all the extra features that AEM has compared to many of the others. More and more people are discovering that this box is much improved over the early versions of it that had a lot of problems, and I think, hurt the box's reputation. Now though, it seems that they have worked out the kinks and I, for one, am really growing to like it.
Anyway, will be getting back to the track soon to get a low-9 pass:slomo:
