New DD recommendations

I once drove a '95 Caprice ex-MSP cruiser with bald tires and no weight in the back for a winter . Those TDI Golfs are pretty nice cars. You'll be getting 40mpg+ and it will be great in the snow. Either way, get some winter tires, they help immensely no matter if your car is FWD, RWD, or AWD.

Sounds like fun! RWD and no snow tires are all that was available my first few years of driving! Other than the Toronado there were no front drivers. We got very used to waiting a long time at lights because normally there could only be one car getting through. Fortunately, there were only half as many cars on the road in those days!

You can find TONS of roads up north that are never even plowed.

I noticed that when I was up there last month, signs are posted on the back country roads that they are not plowed during winter and to use them at your own risk. I can imagine how bad they get because much of the UP averages 150" or more snow each winter. We average like 45" down here.

LOL! By today's standards it was absolutely ridiculous.

Hers was a 428CJ 4 speed too lol. She kicks her self in the ass any time she sees one on Barrett Jackson. I have to remind her that nobody back then knew those cars would be worth so much today.

Yep. Who could have known? And she was driving it in the salt!! LOL!!!

Sweet! Congrats! I would probably be considering one of these but I have that life long built in foreign car thing having grown up with all American car company people.

Same here, well sort of. I have my first foreign car right now, built in Mexico lol

Nice! Did you find it locally? Any suggestions on where to look for clean 4runners/Tacoma's other than Craigslist, autotrader, etc?

I did find it locally, in Plymouth. It is unbelievably clean/rust free for a local truck. No rust whatsoever on the body, only minor surface rust on underbody brackets/mounts/etc. It is a rare find. If you have the time/means to spend a little more, I'd look in the SW or maybe Carolinas for a clean one. There are tons of Toyota specific Facebook groups with buy/sell/trade options.

So, for you 4runner experts... what are your thoughts on this? Can't tell if this is really the jewel he says it is or if he is just talking a big game. To a 4runner noob, it does seem pretty nice, although not sure if it's priced right. One oddity to me is for how nice the rest of the truck is, the steering wheel sure has a lot of wear on it, but I guess some people are just rougher with those than others.

It is very nice, and the manual trans is a fairly rare option (hood scoop too)... but I think it's over priced. Can't blame him for trying, somebody may jump at it, but it would have to be the right buyer looking for that exact truck.

You can find very nice ones, under 200k miles, with a rear locker for $5000.

Thanks. He wouldn't send the VIN to me for a Carfax, said to show up in person and write it down but he wouldn't share it with me except in person. Told him I'm in northern MI and would need to do due diligence on it before flying down, never heard from him again. Seems silly when you have an interested buyer on an overpriced vehicle, but that's just me.
