Need opinions.....it's pissin me off

Ok, heres the story.....

My girlfriends sister had this dog. It was given to her by somebody and she had it for about 4 years. About a week ago the dog started drinking alot of water and pissing alot. Btw...the dog was a lab. Now for anybody who has had one of these dogs, knows its not uncommon for them to develope kidney issues when they get older.
Anyways......after putting the dog in "intensive care" for 3 days, which cost them over 2000.00, they came to the conclusion that it was best to put the dog down. Now remember they didn't have this dog since it was a puppy, or saved it from a bad situation....it was given to them. Now everybody in my girls extended family is taking time off work, rearranging schedules, and making funeral arrangements....FOR A DOG!!!!!!
Maybe we are just wicked, cold people, but we both think that this is totally fu#!ing stupid and a waste of time. It's one thing to be a little sad if your pet, that you have had since a baby dies, but come on......IT'S A DOG, not a person, go adopt another one if you want a dog, or go buy one if you want a certain type of dog....

BTW dogs are better than most people.

Thats just because you hump your dog on a regular basis...when it has a sweater on.....

wow you spent 2000. bucks on a dog?

you could have given it to me instead and I could have spent it on something else to make my vehicle a little faster..

Pets become parts of the family...much more than just animals. I cried the same when my grandma died as I did when Sprockett died. At some point, yes, they are just animals....but people put so much love and time and attach so much emotion to them that they literally become much more than "just a dog". While we didn't have a funeral for Sprockett, we did have him cremated and I buried his ashes in my back yard.

ya, you gotta draw the line when it comes to pets. Who knows how they really look and think about us. They might be thinking "Look at this asshole who feeds me, cleans up my shit and screatches my belly everyday" lol
 
My dad's wife spent 1800ish on a 17 yr old cat to give it possibly 6 more months.... people love their pets :) I met Trunk's dog at Stoney and he is right that the dog is nicer than most people....
 
I think alot of the vets are complete rip-offs. They know people are attached to their animals & get away with alot of bullshit. I had to put my 12 year old German shepherd down today, which by the way is one of the worst things I've ever had to do. Patterson(located on harper & 15) are a bunch of scammers wanted $279 for the procedure. I found a place in New Baltimore that charged me $90 for the same exact service. R.I.P. Jessie:(
 
No doubt they become part of the family. So no, you just don't go and get another one.

I do however think a full blown funeral is a bit much, but everybody deals with things differently.
 
I would have no issue spending a large sum of money on any of my pets. I have members of my family who have spent thousands on medical problems with their pets. Whether it be emergency stuff or long term medical problems.

As far as not having the dog from a puppy I don't think that is a big deal. My dog was adopted as an adult at 1 1/2 yrs and a couple of my cats were adopted as adults. It doesn't make me love them less than the ones I had since they were babies.

None of my pets have passed to the rainbow bridge with the exception of family dogs. It is heart breaking and alot of people consider their pets part of the family. We have never had a funeral however for any of them.

I think whatever people feel is right to do regarding grieving their pets, paying for medical care, etc. is their decision. Whatever makes it easier for them to recover from the loss is best.

I concur! my puppy (8 yrs old) is like my child. she's spoiled rotten, well behaved.

I'd drop $2k on her in a heart beat if I had to, as long as the outcome would likely be positive. If it was simply to prolong the inevitable (soon) then I doubt I would.

Hell. SHe's been at my side the last 3 days as I lay sick in bed. I'm trying to teach her to pick up the remote when I keep dropping it when I dooze of to sleep. so far no luck. but not to worry, I still feel like crap, so I'll have another day or two to train her.
 
If your going to take on an animals life then you should be able to spend any amount of $ on it or you should not have it.
