you can built a nice core2 DUO e8400 powered box w/ 4gb ram and a 640gb hard drive for $500, makes those others (even though they're cheap) not worth shit

what do you do with your computer. That's the most important thing. It's not about stats, it's about usability.

Damn, Would be sweet but i have just around $200 to spend and wouldn't even know where to begin building one. I'm sure i could learn but have very little experience in that field.

Not much. i Cant even down load acrobat reader i have such little disk space. I would like to be able to watch you-tube type movies with out it being choppy or slow. I would also like to be able to install a video editing software or play some poker games without being slow. i also like to keep pictures and music on my my computer. DVD burner would be nice. I dont understand why i have so little hd space left. I have like nothing on my computer. No music, only a few pictures like no programs?

Windows XP is a large install file in and of itself. I would say for what you're looking to do, get the first one and upgrade the RAM and hard drive. That also depends on what all really comes with the Dell. You need a minimum of 2 gigs of ram. The first comes with 512 meg. You need to get 3 more 512 chips, or for like $60/70 you can get 2 1 gig chips which would be great.

40 gig hd isn't that big. My music collection is over 40 gigs. I have 1000 gigs, but then again I store a lot and like having a ton of space. I would say you want a 120 gig hd. Once again, you can find them cheap on Ebay etc, but you can find them even at Best Buy for probably 60 to 70

a 4GB HD is ancient, if you want to free some space try to clear your 'temporary Internet files' in your browser. or download ccleaner http://www.ccleaner.com/ If you've been getting by on your old PIII all this time either one of those machines will be a HUGE upgrade.
hell I still use a P4 3GHz and I 'could' upgrade but there's no point.

I clear my temp files regularly and have been running ccleaner but nothing will free up much space. Does anybody have or know of a $200 price range computer for sale? or turn me on to a craigslist ad through a link of a decent computer? Hell i would even trade performance parts for a computer. I have a few things laying around. nothing big, ignition, coil, etc

Just on what you posted... #1 PC.

#2 PC sounds like a load of $hit...

It mentions Pentium in one part (Intel) and then says AMD below...?

And then all the stuff about the software BS... if you copied that from somewhere it sounds like a load.

looks like it was a Pentium computer, them he stuck a AMD motherboard and CPU in it, but yeah, if you got one of those, get the first one, and use the rest of the money to get more memory

Try Southfield computers (corner of 12 and Southfield) 248-557-2222 You should be able to pick up a decent tower for that price.

neither of those will be able to use SATA, but they will be able to use IDE/ATA

SATA is Serial ATA, the new format for hard drive communications

SATA is newer, IDE is older and more expensive to upgrade.

Thank you both for clearing that up for me. I was wondering what the difference was whal looking at larger hard drives on cl. Still up in the air about what to buy. The first sound ok but i think i am going to keep looking. I want to buy one tonight or tomorrow. Somewhere local to Dearborn Heights.
