a plan, a sketch, Electrical, Insulation, Drywall, paint, lights, cabinets, work benches, computer, stereo, and if you have enough money left over, paint the floor.

Oh yeah and a tire rack. I have stacks of tires that are always a pain to move..

I should have took a picture with this stuff up.

The tall box to the right is a 11' attic ladder, hiding shit in the attic is perfect.

My garage it's a mess since my accident lol. 24x24 bench we built into the wall. It's 30" wide 24' long an 36 or 40" high.

It is called pegboard. Pretty inexpensive stuff.
Slat wall and peg board are not the same. I have pegboard in the garage and basement workbench. Can't hold heavier stuff, slatwall can handle That, and slat wall looks way cooler. Do I NEED it? no.. Do I want it?.. yeah.. yeah I do.

I talked to those guys back when I had resale value on my house. Typical basic install is $25k not including the building, excavation, electrical or concrete work. IIRC, they are based in San Diego, the sales guy showed me some kickass $100K+ installs. One guy used it to store his PWC's on his waterfront property, and has vegitation growing on the roof. Totally stealth, so Batman.. :)

I know there is a difference, and I agree that slat looks much better. Big-cowl imp posted a pic of pegboard though, not slat board.

Just a suggestion, if you're going to add counters and shelving, Ikea makes cheap stuff that looks really good in a finished garage setting. A friend of mine did his garage with Ikea stuff and it came out looking great. I was really surprised.

Do your electrical, insulation, drywall, paint, and do the floor. (in that order) After that, everything's easy. I didn't paint mine after I hung the drywall, I should've. I even mudded and taped. Now I've got cabinets on the walls, and the drywall's yellowing from welding smoke. I might just paint around them. I also really wish I had done something with the floor. I still might. And put as much power out there as you can like Mike said. I've gotta get more out to my garage once spring hits. Go at least 100 amps. And a pull down ladder into the attic helps a ton.

Your wrong 2x ....its called slatwall and the pics i posted are slatwall....I posted no pics of peg board...

What the hell do you know??

J/k...apparently my eyes are failing me. When I looked at the pic the first time it looked like pegboard.

I got the slat wall at Detroit store fixture and they sell used hooks cheap.....i think there a block or 2 before Liverniose..or about 1 1/4 miles before woodward......on 8 mile..south side..

I wish I had enough clearance above the rafters in my garage, but the roof is really low. Luckily, I commandeered the smaller 1/2 of the basement, and it's lined with shelves for parts. If I can carry it down the stairs including winter/summer wheels/tires, it goes there.

If you do coat the floors with epoxy, decide if you are going to urethane top coat. The $250 kit that U Coat It sells is just enough to coat the floor with the water-based epoxy, but it does not include the shinier urethane clear coat that REALLY helps with stains and stuff. I didn't do the urethane because I did my shop floor in Feb (heated), and didn't want to stink up the house with the fumes. I wish I had the time to have waited and done it though. Floor works well, but it's got some discoloration from chemicals here and there.

I wonder how those will deal with water, I dont think you could have one in MI. Foot of snow on top, rain getting down inside, etc.

I wonder WHY you'd need it in Michigan. It's not like McMansions on decent sized plots of land are hard to come by. But, if you looks, there is a drip rail/gutter about 2" inboard of the outer edge. The top overlaps the drip rail, and they can do a sump pump setup if needed. They also do garage installs where you park your DD on a platform, you back the DD out, and the floor raises up with the lower level. I'll see if I can find the info on it. It's pretty sweet. About $50k + to do it ($25k for the hoist, + install, + excavation concrete etc..) There aren't many places in SE MI where that $50k can't buy you more storage area, much more simplified. A chiropractor friend of mine had a 3 car garage in Livonia built with 3 hoists. He MAXED out the building code, but got the permits.
