i added a shelf in my garage about 2 ft from ceiling on 2 walls and it helped a ton with storage. keeps everything off the ground and usually the top corners in the garage are wasted spaces anyways so it fills in the spot nice.

Get a shed and put as much stuff in there to keep ur garage with just tools, and stuff. I built my shed last year, best thing I ever did to clear out the garage. But insulate it I'm sure u like to play in there during the winter time

Look to the right....see the slat wall with hooks ?? I love it...

Insulation, dry wall, paint, reverse osmosis water hook up with a wall mounted water heater, trench drains, and about 20 fluorescent light fixtures.

Ooops, that's my dream. Def start off with insulation and some paint, add a couple of cabinets and a shelf or two, maybe a TV (with surround sound) and fridge, and I think you'll be perfect!

Before you do ANYTHING, decide if you are going to insulate and heat it, and COAT THE FLOOR. It will only add time to getting back to working on cars if you have to tear down a bunch of shelving/stuff to do that later.. Ask me how I know..

Or..

Buy a house where the old garage was converted into a bonus room/office, and convert it back to shop space. Central heat and air (sep from the main house HVAC), nice view of my yard, trimmed, painted, even a nice ceiling fan.. :)

Even when I did this, I made sure I epoxy coated the floor before putting anything in there. So much easier to keep the floors clean. Simple green and a mop. Floor looks great, spot shoot it with concentrated Simple Green to get grease and oil off the floor.

Sadly, the shop is full of shit right now, benches, TIG mIG, plasma, drill press, band saw, lathe, shelves, old Triumph (bike), couple of motors... Mill is still sitting in the garage.

Other things:
Run enough power out to the shop. Even lots of flourescent lights will eat 15 amps quickly. Run at least 50A 220V if your meter can handle it. I ran 100 out to mine on top of the existing lights/outlets.

Doing this stuff before starting a car project is totally worth it.

Tim, I have been looking for some of that slat wall stuff, where did you get it? Is it called slat wall, or?? I have been looking on CL at old store display stuff.

x2. My regular garage, not the shop, is full of the garden tractor, the tiller, snowthrower and blade deck attachments (all on a rack), the wood chipper, brush mower, and all the gardening stuff, bicycles.... only shop related things in there is one 30x72 bench, the aforementioned mill, 80 gal compressor, table saw, chop saw and tool cart.. oh and the other Triumph Daytona.. The rest is yard crap. I am hoping I have time to build a 12x18 shed this summer.

Find yourself a vintage Marantz receiver and a pair of Large Advents or vintage JBLs....surround is for soccer moms :D. Anything worth doing is worth doing right.

I got some Slatwall at Sam's Club. They have a couple different varieties and I've been able to fit all of the Gladiator and similar products onto it. Comes in very handy! Some plain/3-pronged pegboard hangers will fit on it, too.

Yep, pegboard. I have a wall in my basement over my work bench, and a small section in my garage. It's pretty nice to have.

Insulation, drywall, primer, paint. Frame posters, flourescents in the celing, 2 plugs on side walls, 3 on back wall, 5 in the ceiling. Just needs heat and I'd be 100% happy. I've got a few more cabinets how.
