My friends dog was shot and killed by the Birmingham police Saturday night.

The details are still a bit fuzzy but the story goes...

Police received a call that the dog was outside on the porch, They show up and shine lights on the dog, it begins to bark. They approach with a pole snare, the dog moves to the side yard where it tries to get into the fence (gate). The police corner it, couldnt get the pole snare on it and shot it twice. Wounded, it crawls back to the front porch. After 10 minutes the police shoot it two more times killing it. They use the hose to wash off the porch and leave with the dog (leaving the hose running).... This is all by an eye witness. Also, the initial call was not that the dog was being aggressive or anything, it was just a call to say the dog was out of the fence and on the porch.

I want to show my support but can't since I'm in PA. Channel 4 is doing a story at 3pm at 1971 bowers Birmingham, mi 48009 (My friend Terry's house). If any of you find yourself in the area and want to show your support please show up.

Words cannot express how furious I am! I know MM is a mostly dog loving club and I appreciate your support.

Thanks everyone

RIP 'Buddy'

WTF??? What kind of dog was it? Not that it matters because this kind of things frosts my ass but just wondering. Sorry for your friends loss.

Wow, that's so sad! That looks just like my dog. My dog would bark at people too, but wouldn't harm them. If police walked upto my dog with a pole he'd freak out and think they wanted to play. I guess my dog would get shot too. That's horrible!

What a bunch of fucking trigger happy pricks  It sounds as if the dog wasn't even aggressive. They could have tazed the dog if they felt threatened

Is this anywhere in the print media? I'd like to share it on Facebook if it is. In the meantime, I just copied and pasted the story in a FB note.

"The Officers then tried to corral Buddy. They couldn't. So they went and got the dog capture pole and tried to noose him around the neck. While trying to noose him he ran to the back gate in the drive way where he was cornered then shot twice. Buddy crawled back to the front porch wounded and still alive."

This part makes me sick. Why didn't they just open the fucking gate and let him back in the yard!?!?!?!? Why shoot him?

"Buddy then crawled back on the porch wounded and still alive."

Poor guy....sounds like a dog trying to escape to where he was safe in the first place. RIP Buddy....

By hosing off the porch, isn't that tampering with evidence? or some other form of obstruction of justice? Tampering with a crime scene or something? I mean, I know it's "just a dog" but still...they fired rounds - you'd think there would have to be some on-scene investigation to determine exactly what happened.

wow .. that straight up fuckin pisses me off.. i would go haywire if i was your buddy.. and i would sure as hell be taking action back against the police department.. unreal

The unfortuante thing is from what I understand a dog is considered property (like your your car) and thus it does not receive the same treatment as a human, so basically they can kill your dog and there is not much you can do, you might get a little money and when I say a little I mean a little, but I will bet nothing happens to the officers since it was a dog.

...unless it's one of THEIR dogs...then it's treated as 100% human. Attacking a police dog is the legal equivalent of attacking a regular police officer.

very sad to hear, i bet if he tries to follow up on something with the police they will ticket him and charge him for not have the dog secured.
