My neighbor has a 2000 Ram 1500 with a 5.2L (318) motor in it. Lost oil pressure, a few hundred feet from home. It has a good knock. HE dropped the pan and lots of good size chunks of copper or bronze in the pan. Some of the pieces are way to big to be bearing material, but I am thinking it might be bits of bronze distributor gear??

We are trying to figure things out. Is it likely that the top bushing went bad, or is that oil pump/distributor drive gear sintered bronze? The gear material looks like sintered bronze, just trying to figure it out where it came from. Motor was still running, so the distributor is still turning. Oil pump pickup had lots of crud in it too.

Hoping the bearings aren't spun..

Next up, looks like the shaft comes out the top, do you need to pull the intake, or does it fit through the dizzy hole?

Thanks.

my 5.2 spun a few bearings last night also...im not even messing with it. im either replacing the motor or getting something different all together

Neighbor is not in a position to get a new ride. Been looking at replacement motor options in case the motor spun bearings. The material sure looks like a bronze dizzy gear got chewed up, but there's no telling how bad the crank got. I told him to pull a few caps and check.

hopefully its fixable for him! mine was a dakota and had 239XXX miles on it. i cant be to mad about it lol

there is a bushing in the blocks under the gear that wear out

Yeah, been reading up that too. Do you really need to resize the bushing after install? Goofy shit on these MOPARs, it's all bass ackwards.
