My neighbor has a 2000 Ram 1500 with a 5.2L (318) motor in it. Lost oil pressure, a few hundred feet from home. It has a good knock. HE dropped the pan and lots of good size chunks of copper or bronze in the pan. Some of the pieces are way to big to be bearing material, but I am thinking it might be bits of bronze distributor gear??
We are trying to figure things out. Is it likely that the top bushing went bad, or is that oil pump/distributor drive gear sintered bronze? The gear material looks like sintered bronze, just trying to figure it out where it came from. Motor was still running, so the distributor is still turning. Oil pump pickup had lots of crud in it too.
Hoping the bearings aren't spun..
Next up, looks like the shaft comes out the top, do you need to pull the intake, or does it fit through the dizzy hole?
Thanks.
