Metallica brings the Orion Music + More Festival to Detroit in 2013!

I went down and bought tickets at like 10:45. I was literally the only person that was doing so. I don't mind the walk. I just don't want to be waiting for a bus when 40,000 people try and leave at the same time tonight.

FYI: Unless you leave a little early, or at least stay towards the back of the audience for Metallica's set, you're likely to get blocked in by people waiting for the bus. It was one huge crowd/mass of people walking out, and no way to "get by" if you were walking... at least until you made it up to where the buses were loading.

Setup was great, everyone did a good job from what I could see. They obviously learned their lesson from Saturday. Hope they do it again next year.

I parked my car right on the other side of the light on Jefferson. Walked right in and out, no problems.

Had a great time both days, but man, fuck getting on the shuttle leaving Saturday night. It was a mess in the first place, but the 5-6 fucking police cars and ambulances pushing their way through the lines was what really did me in. Everytime a car went through everyone swarmed in to follow the wake of the vehicle to get further ahead in line and we all ended up getting very aggressively pushed around by the crowd. I was about ready to start swinging people were getting so rough. Then our bus almost got fucking lost on the island, lol.

Sunday night was MUCH better. Left during Seek and Destroy since we heard it on Saturday and we were back in front of Cobo in 20 minutes. They definitely learned their lesson.

I really look forward to it next year. Aside from the bus fiasco it was awesome!

Dude, you're either the luckiest SOB... or you have an "in". So, which is it? :)

For the dehaan set, I was stage right just inside of the speakers, and about 5-6 people deep from the front rail. We headed over there around 4:20pm since the spot we had for Dropkick Murphys was getting a little too rowdy & Bob Marley-like all at the same time. This 1 hour set made my weekend... the entire Kill Em All album from about 30' from the stage! Hightower from the WRIF was directly in front of me... bastard is tall, but we had no issues seeing the set. All of my iphone pics came out a little blurry, i think, due to how close we were to the speakers. That stage was LOUD. Video came out better.

Given our luck on Sat, we played Sunday more laid back.... we were stage left, further back from where a couple of your video clips are shot from. I wasn't sure how rowdy the pit was going to be, and we actually started walking out before the encore started. Everyone had to work this morning. Was your video from in front of the stage shot from the Ultra Metclub Pit, or just GA? Sounded like the Ultra guys got screwed over based on comments over at MetClub.

SO, how did you manage to get side stage right viewing tickets? That's awesome.

Upset that I missed it due to my work, but I did get to make nearly 4 grand in OT over the weekend so I can wait 'til next year. The Saturday surprise set would have been killer, though.

A little bit of both. I am lucky, and I did have an in.

I was just trying to be a good host to a lot of out of town friends. Giving them as much info I could on the area... places to go, things to do, restaurants, so on and so on. Pretty much making myself available as much as I could. Acting as an airport shuttle for those in real need. The person who was "in" handed me some side-stage passes and said "Shut your mouth. Thank you so much for everything you did. Tell no one. Stage left after Deftones. Thank you so much."

That's it really. Karma can be a bitch. But Karma can also treat you very well. Karma was good to me. But at the end of it all? If I hadn't been given that kind of access, I wouldn't have changed the way I did anything, really. I would have done and treated everyone the same.

Wow, that's really awesome of both you and them. Must have been an incredible experience!

BTW, thanks again for the hookup on that ticket!

Very cool indeed. :rockwoot:

Based on your videos, it looks like you left the side stage area towards the end of the show. Were those last clips shot from the Ultra Pit area, or just GA? Also looks like you were a little lucky/planned on the dead center, front rail spot for dehaan too. Man, what a weekend for ya...

Yeah, stage left. In front of me was Ray Burton, Cliff's father. Amazing spot to see the show.

During Enter Sandman, my friend and I wanted to go into the Ultra Pit, which we had passes for. So we did just that.

And yeah, almost dead center rail for dehaan... fucking insane man, insane. The crush was unlike anything I've ever felt before.
