Metallica brings the Orion Music + More Festival to Detroit in 2013!

This is when you wanted to go, Metallica opened up for Ozzy

Lineup pretty much sucks buuuuuuut I'll be there. I've spent about that much to see Metallica alone, though they did have good acts opening up for them. Seeing Battlecross will be fun, though I can see them for $10 at a local bar and it'll probably be a better show. There are a few bands I wouldn't mind seeing. It'll be worth it enough so I'll be there. My friend is part of the Met Club so it'll be a little less than $150 each for our group, which helps.

Yea, I'm going, but only really interested in Metallica. I'm just hoping they play both nights, and that they play their older stuff.

FYI -- Metclub is offering GA tickets for $125 (limit 4), but it costs $45 to join. So if you're buying 2-4 tix, you're better off becoming a club member, getting the t-shirt, and tickets for less than the public price. They also have an Ultra ticket for $225 - sounds interesting, just not sure it's worth the price delta... esp since I really only want to see Metallica.

Have they mentioned when they go on sale?

I'm mainly interested in Metallica too, never seen them live and hopefully they're playing the older stuff. Wouldn't mind seeing Deftones again, only seen them once last year with System of a Down and they only played a handful of songs.

I'm in the fan club. If anyone wants a 2 day general admission for $125 out the door, or an Ultra pass for $225... let me know by 10pm tonight. If you want to, I need money in my PayPal account by 9:45am tomorrow. I have a few people here that can speak on my behalf, and they know where I live! So, you can PayPal me the funds if you want. I can only help out 2 people, as I am already buying 2 Ultra passes. So, only 2 tickets total. Send me a message if you're interested.

Orion 2.0

February 25, 2013

We are thrilled to be back to give you details about the second annual Orion Music + More Festival, our very own two day live music and lifestyle event brought together in the spirit of the legendary festivals around the world that we have been fortunate to be a part of for so many years. We’re very proud and excited to be taking this year’s festival to Detroit, Michigan, a city with a long history of musical diversity that represents what our goal with Orion is – to bring you everything from metal to dance music and a little of what lives in between. And even though we have a new location, you can expect all the fun and games of last year’s Orion to return bigger, badder and crazier with more activities and entertainment for two full days on June 8 and 9, 2013 on the city’s Belle Isle.

This year we are super psyched to have the Red Hot Chili Peppers join us to close the main Orion stage one night while we hit that stage the other. All in all we’ll have over 30 bands across five stages and we’re excited that this year Orion will include an EDM tent headlined by Bassnectar. Check out the full list below of the amazing artists who will be a part of Orion this year, including Rise Against, the Deftones, Dropkick Murphys, Gogol Bordello, Silversun Pickups, Foals, The Joy Formidable, Death Grips, and Tomahawk, just to name a few . . . and this is just the beginning as we continue to invite a wide range of musicians, DJ’s, and bands to make the trek to Detroit.

Of course all our little personal quirks and stuff we’re into will be back in the form of James’ Custom Car & Motorcycle Show, Kirk’s Crypt, Lars’ Hit the Lights Film Tent and Robert’s Vans Vert Ramp alongside the Metallica Museum and other fan favorite attractions. Again, we've joined forces with our friends at C3 Presents, who bring you Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits each year here in the U.S. as well as presenting Big Day Out to our Australian friends, so if you joined us last year you can expect the same friendly atmosphere and festival amenities.

“I am SO there,” you say . . . here’s how you can get tickets:

The Met Club presale begins tomorrow, Tuesday, February 26 at 7:00 AM PST, ending February 28 at 7:00 PM PST. Clubbers should log in for more details on how to purchase special packages and discounted tickets early.

Orion Music + More E-list members may purchase $150 2-Day Passes before they go on-sale to the public. This presale starts February 27 at 7:00 AM PST and runs through February 28 at 7:00 PM PST.

Tickets will go on-sale to the public on March 1 at 7:00 AM PST for $150 for a 2-Day Pass including all fees, or $750 for the VIP ticket package including an elevated viewing platform, access to the front pit, complimentary food and beverages, air-conditioned private restrooms, comfy shaded seating. Visit www.orionmusicandmore.com for more details and to purchase tickets.

Ticket, hotel and shuttle packages are also available by clicking here: http://www.cidentertainment.com/home/orion2013.php

Stay tuned as we’ll have lots more good stuff coming your way between now and June 8th!

as I am already buying 2 Ultra passes.

Just curious - what sold you on the Ultra? Sounds like you didn't go last year, and I've been trying to get the scoop on the GA vs. Ultra from people that went last year, but not finding much online. I see the basic comparison info they provide, but wondering how bad/good the GA "seats" are vs. the "pit", and if the pit is a crazy pit with moshing & shit, or something I can bring the gf into too. The separate entrance and nicer bathrooms are nice, but not worth $100, esp if you're only going for the Metallica portions & not all day, all weekend.

Decisions... :)

Decisions... :)

Reasons being...

The metclub exclusive area. The separate bathrooms and food. The closer access for the Metallica show is a huge reason. The pit won't be there for the Chili Peppers, but it will for Metallica. From talking to people, they said the bathroom feature was worth it alone last year. The extra $100 isn't a huge deal after talking to my fellow club friends. The extra access they had and certain q&a's they were able to attend was worth it.

Yea, that's cool. I was tempted. With the news that Metallica is only going to be playing on Sunday, not both days, think I'm leaning towards the GA tickets this go-round. The extra $100 per tic would be easier for me to swallow if they were playing 2 sets, and/or i was planning to make an entire weekend of the festival.

I went to see Baroness at St Andrews Hall last night and Metallica came out to introduce them.

Facebook is making it sound like a total disaster. I guess people have been stuck in the will call lines for as much as 3-4 hours and the shuttle lines have been long too, so people are missing most of the day.

Detroit - making good impressions on the outside world since 1967.

It took us about 90 minutes from parking @ Cobo to get on Belle Isle, and about 60 minutes back to our car. There were tons of buses and people trying their best, but there's just a shitton of people (~20k) and buses that only hold 50 people don't make much of a dent. What was worse is that there was a HUGE line inside of the main floor of Cobo, that many thought was the line for the shuttle, that was really the box office. So a lot of people waited hours for nothing... only to then go outside and get in a 8 city block line for the shuttles.

All that said, I had an awesome time. I was ~6th row for the surprise Metallica set - played the entire Kill Em All album. And I think Hightower from WRIF was standing in front of me.

yeah whats this 3 hour stuff? I was in like 7 blocks from where they pick us up and it took 45 minutes....I have the blue metclub wristband does that mean I get the extra goodies like the pit etc or is there more stuff I would need? and yes seeing metallica come on under a fake name was sweet, but I felt bad since they practically stole the crowd from all the smaller bands playing...all in all great day and tomorrow should be better

I'm gonna head down to buy tickets now and just walk across when we go. People said they were letting them walk across even though the claim was that they wouldn't. I'm sure they were just saying that so out of towners wouldn't be ambling into the neighborhoods off Jefferson scared shitless at midnight.

Hard to say which will be better. The shuttles were 45-90 minutes depending on surge. They were allowing people to walk across and in, but you're probably looking at 1.5-2 miles... and at least 30 minutes. Honestly, even shuttling, it seems like the walk took forever.
