aww she is so cute. Thats how hannah looked when she was a pup. all furry and soft like a bear.

she didnt stay small for very long though.

now she is the size of a minature pony!

this breed is known for that heart issue and hip dysplasia so keep an eye out.

The vet told Mark if Hannah made it past 9 months old then she would be fine on the heart problem.

Now she is a year old and healthy as a "horse"

Nice! Are German Shepards good with kids and their owners? I know it's how you raise them, but I remember as a kid, my cousins had one, and I was always scared of that dog. He had a hell of a bark.

They are excellent dogs... I love that breed and personally think it's one of the best...

Ours is named Saddie... But she's half only though...

That's a nice looking dog too. I want to get a dog that people would make strangers think twice of coming up the driveway/front door, but I do NOT want a pit, or a rott. My friend has a rott, and she's a great great dog, but I sometimes still get a little weird around her. She's gentle, but has that look, ya know? I just think a German Shepard would be the best thing. I was scared of that one as a kid obviously, because we were all around 6-10 years old.

We got her from Leader of the Blind...

They have a sign up list... Any dog that can't be used will get immediately adopted... She's the best... She's very smart... And very very sneaky...

That sounds good. I would love to adopt. Our first family dog was a stray we saved from the woods in Brighton back in 96. Our 2nd dog was adopted from a shelter. He was found in a barn with 7-8 others.

Thanks guys!

Yeah, German Shepherds (to me) are the best breed there is. You will not find a more loyal dog out there. I travel a lot so my wife and kids are home without me. We also have a 4 year old male (Zues) who would die before he'd let someone in the house he didn't know.

As far as good with kids, and their owners....yes, they're fantastic.

Beautiful dogs and they're super smart. I'm sure you've read up on all of the health problems they're known to have which is the only reason my girlfriend decided not to get one. I've always been a fan though.

That's good to know. Thanks a lot. Do they shed like crazy, or about normal?

I heard they just had bad hips when they age. Is that it?

Bad hips can be prevented though... Excerise helps a lot...

They don't shed a lot... But they shed a little...

Shepherds blow their coats twice a year, and it can be messy. If you keep them groomed and brushed you won't have a lot of problems with it.

As far as the hips go, yeah, like any large breed dog they can have their issues but quality breeders help to mitigate the problems. The puppy we have now should have no problems. We researched a lot on who we were getting our dog from and talked to a lot of the people she had sold to previously so I have good idea of what we purchased.

Just like buying a car.....

Yeah, mostly hip problems from what I've heard SVT32DOHC
http://www.isnare.com/?aid=239027&ca=Pets

They have more than hips as common health problems. The last 4 my parents have had all had health problems, but good hips. All game from reputable breeders too. Only 1 has lived to be over 5. The one that did had to put to sleep after getting bloat. Why they got another one is beyond me. They haven't had the best luck obviously!

1 had Megaesophagus, 1 had degenerative neve disorder, 1 had SIBO and EPI and died from gastric torsion (bloat) and 1 had just EPI
