LS1 master disconnect switch wiring (or any car)

Trying to wire a master switch, switch isn't here yet, still in the mail, but I'm testing the wiring.

If I disconnect the alt exiter circuit (PIN 15 out of pcm) first, then battery second, the car shuts off.

If I disconnect the battery first and the exiter circuit second, the car stays running.

I hope that the master switch cuts the power to the alt circut a split second before the battery because if it doesn't this won't work. Or maybe the simultaneous disconnect will do the trick but its hard to do with 2 hands when testing the circutry.

Thoughts?

the alt output wire has to be switched not the exciter circuit I beleive.
can run the alt wire directly to the batt or switch then another wire from the other side of the switch to the fuse box
the stock wire goes from the alt to the fuse box then across to the batt

Thats alot of hot big cable running back and forth though.

According to alot of racers the cutting the exciter circuit does the trick. Like I said if I disconnect that first, I lose charging from the alternator and I can see that on the voltmeter on the dash. Then the car is running on battery and disconnecting the battery kills everything.

Isn't that the purpose of the exiter wire in the first place, to activate the alternator and get it to charge? Thats why when that wire comes loose the car wont charge. I just don't get why when you disconnect the battery first, then the exiter circut, the car stays running??
