LQ4 - HP claims

Saw a Syclone kit/V8 swap on the road the other day. I ran with him for a minute. We pulled off and he had a V8 swapped into it. Said it was an LQ4 stock except CAM. Also said that I had no chance at keeping up. Which, TBH, might be true depending on motor. But he then said it produced over 800hp. With just a cam.
Am I just completely wrong or does this sound a bit high. I could see maybe 450-500 at the block with just a cam. It didn't sound aggressive enough to be anything like what some of you guys or the old school 10 second cars run. But I just lol'ed and nodded in agreement. Thing was spewing more oil than a porn shoot as well.

Anyone here ever build an LQ4? The motor didn't look super fresh, but looked like a decent setup. The intake looked like a SUM-226125.

That's crazy talk. 500 cam only on an LS engine would require a cam that sounds like a funny car idling (they are out there though!) I think those motors are in the mid 300 HP from the factory. He is probably 400 to the wheel or so if that is the only mods.

Maybe it had a whipple blower and a cam? If it doesn't have some sort of power adder, he is doing the SyTy community wrong...

Thats what I was thinking too. It didn't sound anything like 800hp, let alone anything above 500.

As for location, this was down in Kentucky. Honestly, the truck looked good, but the trim panels were falling off, and it gave me kit vibes for some reason. Even though he said it was a real Syclone.

He opened the hood and honestly, I have seen a lot of engines in my time, except for the nice looking intake, nothing stood out. Well except for all the oil every where. Said it was still a fully functional AWD setup on a 4l80e. It had the front diff in place.

I know where my vehicle currently sits HP wise on the top end. And it looked like he was really on it and I was gaining. Which, if he was wide open, tells me he could be between 400-500hp. But he stated be was barely on it.

So I can only take him at his word, I did ask if he ever dynoed it, he said no. But man, I don't understand why people got to play stuff up. Truck looked good, would have looked even better if he was more honest about it.

It did look sacrilegious when he first opened the hood. But then, I just accepted that it was violated and moved on. lol

He said he was running 6.8, which I can only assume is 8th mile, but that's freaking hauling. I know they easily ran 12's and on good days high 11's stock. And a 6.80 is a mid 10 1/4, which this truck didn't sound anything like any vehicle I have ever seen run a 10 second quarter.

The original stuff was boring so I sold it. Everything is custom made for it.

I can understand that.

Once I get a new place with a proper garage, I plan on doing a full in house project car. Something stupid but fun.

I am thinking a newer body focus ( I like the interior for this ford) or some other small body car and then sling an AWD SC/TC setup from another vehicle into it. I will probably run into a lot of issues along the way, but that's the point. Would be different and if it works, massively cool.
